Ryndam conditions
Am thinking of taking a cruise on the Ryndam but some recent cruisers in the Caribbean said the air conditioning did not work well and the food was ordinary or worse. Are there other problems? Will the above be fixed in the next remodeling?

Hi there, we made the mistake of taking a trip on the Ryndam whilst she was in the UK, and have to say that we were thoroughly disappointed with the whole experience. Unfortunately from your message it doesn't appear that things have improved since she moved to the Caribbean.

It may be worth looking at the larger or newer ships in their fleet.

I too have sailed on the Ryndam - Sep 2010 - in Alaska.

Like Alan, I was disappointed - I ate only once in the MDR and the Lido Buffet was awful - JMHO.

I did post on this board my thoughts - and was advised that I was unlucky and give HAL another chance.

In short I won't sail Ryndam or HAL again.

Book another vessel is my advice.

Hi there Iceman, out of interest, have you also sailed on the Ryndam? if so please could you let us know the main differences between this bucket and the Westerdam, or other HAL ships. Given the choice, which one would you choose in future?

Hi, Onecruiser, and Alan -
I was on the Ryndam for the first time in November, and have been on several HAL ships previously. I found the food to be pretty much the same as on other ships of their line; I have never had any reason to complain about it. As for air conditioning, mine was a transatlantic trip and never required much in the way of cooling until we got to the Bahamas; certainly the cabin was always very comfortable. The Ryndam is a little smaller than most HAL ships, but laid out pretty much the same as the others. We unfortunately had a breakout of the dreaded gastro bug and therefore never had some of the usual food events; no poolside cookouts, no taco bar, no midnight dessert extravaganza.

Westerdam was immaculate. We have never sailed on the Ryndam. The Westerdam was great, Main Dining Room, Specialty Restaurant and the Buffet Restaurant. We had absolutely nothing to complain about the waiters and service were fantastic, along with crew members and the main desk personnel.

even the dockside personnel from check-in to sailing were teriffic.I would not hesitate to go Westerdam in a heart beat Also the Nieu Amsterdam was magnificent in the Med. Good Luck on your choices

Is Sail 7 Seas still out there? Need to ask a question.

Have never had any trouble with HAL ships or cruises.
Food and other conditions (ie: Air Conditioning) can very personal choices.
If you like a very cold room to sleep you might find the AC isn't cold enough.

Ryandam problems
We did a 14 day western carribean crurise recently. Had an engine failure that prevented us from porting in Key West.
And had a cabin fire, that they put out quickly.

The ship has some issues...
