Default Pre Allure Cruise Hotel advice?

Hi all, I haven't been in here in a long time but am going on the Allure in May with my family and was wondering if anyone stayed at Lago Mar Resort in Ft. Lauderdale? and if so if you liked it? Also if anyone has any other suggestions I'd be open to that as well. We want to go down a day before the cruise and stay the day we get off the boat? thanks

you have a whole lot of choices when it comes to staying in Ft. Lauderdale. I haven't personally stayed at the hotel you mentioned. We like to stay in downtown Ft. Lauderdale, mainly because its really close to both the airport and the cruise terminal, and depending upon where you stay you are within reasonable walking distances to good restaurants, shops and grocery stores. We have stayed at the Embassy Suites, The Marriott Marina(which is now a Hyatt i think)

I have been wondering about this issue too. We also cruise Allure in May and I haven't booked a hotel yet. We only need one night pre-cruise. I don't really understand priceline and those similar sites, and furthermore, I'm scared to use them because I don't know what I might end up with. (Need to find a book- Priceline for Dummies.)

Anyway. I will be able to book a hotel in mid-Feb. probably, and I am wondering if this will be too late and I should try to get it earlier. I'd like to find the nicest place I can for no more than $120 total. (One room, sleeps 4)

Suggestions?

Check out these two links from this forum..I wil be down in March, so, May will probably going to be cheaper still..Using Priceline in Lauderdale, with
4 star downtown, is not a craps game..I have ended up up with the Renaissance several time, and, just got the Hyatt Pier 66 for $95.00. You will not get a bad room doing it this way. Close to the port, and, airport.

Ok, so I guess I get how Priceline works... you give them a price and they see if they can find a hotel for you at that price. But you have to wait to do it until you can put in a credit/debit card that is ok to be charged immediately if they find something that works for you.

And if they find you something at the price (and other factors) you reqested, and you've put in your card and accepted it, you get what they give you- no substitutions, exchanges or refunds.

Is it worth checking the little insurance box so you can change it for $5/rm if something happens?

Will I be able to find something if I am booking in mid-Feb. for late May?

You have the idea. I started at $80.00,and was refused. I then had to add another criteria, so, I added the Beach area. You don't want to change from 4 star hotels though. I then went up to $95.00 and won.

I have never checked that box, figuring my travel insurance would cover that if I needed it.....you can also check, biddingfortravel.com,and see who bid what, and won, for your time frame in the city, and yes you can bid now for May.

Thanks for the information! One thing though- I understand that I can bid now for May, but what I'm wondering is if I will have trouble getting a room if I wait until mid-Feb. to book. I mean availability-wise. Will everything be full by then?

We ended up booking a night before and after the cruise at the Lago Mar Resort. The night before the cruise I booked an Oceanfront suite so I can get up early and get to see the Allure come into port. This resort was pricey but we splurged because we haven't been on vacation since 2008.
