I have a little more time now and would like to help out answering questions about Mazatlan. I will writ about my beautiful City, but would like to answer your questions also. I hope this thread is helpful!
Have a great weekend!
Hola, Frank - I will be arriving in Mazatlan via cruiseship in October and would like to visit Deer Island. What is the closest location to the cruiseship dock where I could pick up a water taxi? What would the approximate cost be for the water taxi (round-trip)? Thanks in advance.
Let me checkout the cost. For what I know, there is an anphibious boat that crosses from El Cid to Deer Island every hour our so. From the ship to El Cid it is a 25 minute taxi ride and the cost around $12 us per cab. Let me check tomorrow....
I just found out the information you need. The taxi ride, I told you all ready. Go to El Cid Castilla (they have 4 hotels, remember, Castilla.) On the beach there is an anphibious boat called "El Super Pato" it goes to Deer Island at 10 am, 12 and 2 pm. The last one back is at 4 pm. This timing is now. I do not think it will change, but check when the time comes closer to your arrival. The cost is $8us per person rountrip. If you want to rent the snorkle equipment, El Cid has an Aqua Sports center and they rent it for $15us.
Thank you Harry. I will tell Randi, no problem. I want to start answering questions here also. You have been so nice and I would like to help others that read this board. If there is anything else I can help you with, please ask amigos!
we have different taxis in Mazatlan. We have regular ones, red and white or green and white, some have air conditioning. Safaris (in the US they were called the VW thing), Pulmonias (like a little golf cart) and also Aurigas, open air nissan pick ups with seats and a roof in the back (seats 8-10 people). I do recommend that you ask how much any of these will charge you because they do not have a meter and charge according to where you go.
Mazatlan is an indian word that means land of place of the deer. There were a lot of deer in the area. We are also in the southern part of the State of Sinaloa. In Mexico we have 31 States and also D.F. (Federal District), something like DC in the US. Each state has municipalities, which are like Counties. Although it is away from my City, I will tell you that Puerto Vallarta is in the State of Jalisco and Nuevo Vallarta is in the State of Nayarit.
Perhaps most of you knew this but it is Just a little comment that might be of interest to some of you.
I would like to comment that Frank can set up tours in Mazatlan taylored to you. Or one that he has already set.
Just send an e-mail to him and request your thoughts on an excursion. You will not be disappointed. Many cruisers have used his service and have great praise for him.

I would like to thank you both for your nice comments. I just try to do my job well done and then things get so easy. It is nice to do what you like to do. I also enjoy talking about my City, so any questions, please ask. I hope to hear from all of you soon! Perhaps we can also meet someday as I have met several from this board.
Welcome back Harry and Art! I hope you enjoyed your cruise.
Have a great week all of you!
I hope that this thread helps you answer your questions. I also hopr that those who have questions ask. I do write on different boards and do not want to repeat things that you may know already. So, if you have questions about this beautiful Port and City, go ahead. Muchas gracias!
