Has anyone ever been to the American Discount Pharmacy in Cozumel? I found their ad from Cozumel Insider and was wondering about buying a few things, like antibiotics and motrin. I have never done this before so I don't have any idea what you can buy without a prescription and are there any restrictions on bringing it back into the US?
We sail on 12/1 so if anyone has any experience with this pharmacy or buying medicines in general, please help!
If your cruise includes Belize City there is a drug/liquor store right in the tourist shopping center.
I got 100 each 800 miligram Ibuprofin for 10 bucks.
It's about a 200 foot walk from where the tender drops you off.
When we were in Cozumel we did not go to the stores but I'm sure there is a pharmacy to help you.

Peace through superior firepower.
There are lots of phamacia's in Cozumel . Just know both names of the drugs you want and they should have it. Also, be sure to check the expiration date before you pay.

I don't have any experiences taking mexican medicines back to the US, but it seems many people do it so it should not be complicated.
Basically you can buy any medicine if you know the name, there are some that are restricted but most don't require a prescription.
I know people frequently ask about Retin A.
DEFINATELY get Cipro. It's the antibiotic your doctor would prescribe if you had a serious cold or infection or whatever.
The original pill made here in the U.S., I believe by Merck is like $90 a pill. Expensive little bugger because its not the generic.
You can get it down in Mexico (same thing shipped by Merck) for like $25 a bottle. My sister does this when she goes down.
You don't need a prescription to buy it. If you are leary bringing it home, grab an empty aspirin bottle you have & dump the pills in there. Then you won't have any concerns getting it back into the States through customs.

in regards to brands, be aware of that several franchises in Cozumel offer alternative brands, that contain similar or same ingredients. My recommendation for specific medicine would be to go to CMC (centro medico de cozumel) where actually you will be recommended medicine from a doctor...good luck!
I found that the prices weren't all that great on common medicines, but to each their own. Not that I have any moral compass that points towards ensuring the US drug companies maintain huge profits, but risking a felony to save a few bucks on Zocor? No thanks. It is sort of like buying Cuban cigars.
The Cipro tip is an interesting one however.....
