Default Taxis in Acapulco

Are the taxis a good way to see the highlights of Acapulco? How much are they for a couple hour tour and are the cliff divers close to the port?

I really want to see the divers but the cruise line price just to see the divers is very expensive. I would like to get a taxi and see the divers and some other sites in Acapulco.

I have heard that Acapulco isn't the safest port. Is this true or is it overblown?

Thanks,
BB

There are tour guides inside the cruise terminal, they operate as tour guides but also as taxis, they are safe due to the certification received by the Mexican government and the regulations of the ship terminal administration.
check this website:
Acapulco Sun and Sand
The cliff divers are about 15 minutes by car and 35 minutes walking distance, but i will recommend to take a taxi. the cliff divers are located at la quebrada by the downtown, i wont say that is 100 % safe, but is not either so bad, it is just like any other city in USA, just follow the regular safety rules, do not talk to strangers, do not wear jewelry, keep your belongs close to you, and now you probably understand when i´m saying to hire a tour guide from inside the terminal.
Enjoy your trip and enjoy Acapulco.

I wouldn't click the link above it looks like a virus page.

Any cab starts at 25 pesos if it is a blue and white bug on the Costera. Don't use a port taxi unless you want to pay triple or more. It just is not worth it.

Walk to the street - hail a blue and white. You can hire many of the drivers for about 200 pesos an hour. And yes, any cab driver can take you any place a tour guide can go.

No. Acapulco is not unsafe unless you make it that way. Being on a bad street alone in the middle of the night drunk could get you in trouble. Other than that - don't worry. Acapulco people are really pretty cool.

Well, i will say that the small taxis are VW, and as U say they can take U to any place the tour guide go, but most of the local drivers do not speak English, and their taxis have not a/c,. So what U pay is what U get, U can go so cheap as taking the local bus or having a tour guide, a/c van, and some one who speaks English.
It´s up to U, but do not say that is not worth it. These guys invest too much money in their vehicles to have something good to offer to the tourists, and they take courses every year to upgrade their knowledge.

People is very friendly, if by any chance U get in trouble, the locals are prompt to help, Acapulqueños have the goal to protect the tourist, feel safe walking in the city. If U see police men on the streets, the reason is cause the gov is giving all the protection needed to keep your safety, do not feel intimidated by these guys, they are there to assist U.

By the way, the website above is valid web. no virus.

Remember there is a big difference between a cabdriver and a guide.
Cabdriver needs to drive, but doesnot need to speak english and has to have knowledge about the town/history etc.
A guide is certified and has studied about all the places you like to see and has answers to all your questions.

yes U r right, the "taxis" inside the terminal are called taxi driver by most of the cruise passengers but they are tour guides, the reason they operates as taxis too is cause of the agreement they have with the ship terminal administration to have this taxi services as well as the tours.
Now U can take a city tour + divers of 3 1/2 hours, or the old Acapulco +divers tour of 2 1/2 hrs, or take the shuttle service they have inside the terminal -round trip to the divers-

The web site above is good, get in touch, they show some prices but contact them with your concerns and ask them for prices.

see you in Acapulco!
