Default NCLs Dream - Any Comments?

Considering a cruise out of & return to New Orleans on the Dream and wld appreciate hearing comments and your experiences on this ship. Want a suite - any suggestions as to which one &/or level? Worth taking a guarantee - any advantages? Have u done this particular cruise itinerary? Thanks in advance & happy cruisin'!

I was on the Dream a few weeks ago. 7 day Western out of N. O. I booked a gty and was upgraded to a cat FF Outside. Loved the cruise. It was my 3rd cruise total and 2nd NCL.

We took an 8-day cruise on the Dream out of New Orleans in March. We had a great time. Our stateroom was #5055 which was an ocean-view. The room was the largest that we have experienced in our seven cruises.

Service quality was acceptable at the restaurants but very slow. Food was very good at all of the restaurants.

We had no problems with the physical ship itself other than it is confusing at times to get your bearings. This is due to the fact that when they elongated the ship in 2002, it cut off some hallways and depending on where you are and where you are going, it can take a while to get there.

We had some administrative issue with NCL but at the end of our cruise in Miami (repositioning), they gave us an overnight in a great hotel in South Beach which would have cost over $220/night had we booked it ourselves. This made up for a lot.

I've cruised on the Dream twice....overall I enjoyed the Dream very much....I am going back again in Nov 2004...keep in mind you're no going to find perfection....but you have flexible and easy going...a cruise is what you make of it...life is to short to wound up a small issues...

Just a little story about poor service.... While at lunch, our waiter had little personality, didn't talk much, and seemed to be having a bad day....basically his service stunk...so using reverse phsycology, in the middle of lunch I gave him a $5.00 bill...to see how that would change his outlook...This waiter immediatlely changed his ways...from then on, and for the rest of the week, we got the best service we could have ever asked for... You have to understand, they see 1000's of 1000's of people week after week after week after week...they are humans too and like to feel appreciated too...show them just a little appreciation and they will doing anything for you... Our room service crew person brought us full menu breakfast's every day...run of the menu...anything we wanted...fresh sqeezed OJ, Omlettes, you named it, he brought it.....you take care of them...they take care of you...don't wait to tip them, even if they stink at first, because they will see you apprecaite them, and they will become your friend...

The food and service at "Le Bistro" make it well worth the additional charge.

The food and service on this ship is very spotty at best. We had a great time because of the "Baltics" itinerary but it was probably our least favorite ship out of nearly twenty cruises.

Cruising is fun even on a so-so ship like the Dream.

The Dream itinerary, out of New Orleans- its a nice cruise. Although, don't always count on going to Cancun - sometimes, due to rough weather, tender boats cannot run. Other than that, its a small, old ship. Its a cruise for people that are there for the ports- not for what the ship has to offer. If you are looking to enjoy the SHIP ITSELF- then hop on the Dawn, or the Star..or any of the ones that have been refurbished lately.

Two thoughts:

Yes...there are balconies..not many though....

News update.... according to the NCL website....Beginning Oct 2005 the NCL SUN will be going to New Orleans,(with some 10 and 11 day intnrys) and the Dream will be shifting over to Houston...same itenarary except the Dream leaves out of Houston on Saturdays, and the Sun will leave out of N.O. on Sundays...

Yes they have a limited number of balconies on the Dream. We are sailing on it again in 11 days and we have a balcony, 8071. By taking a balcony room on the very aft of the ship, you can use a large teak balcony on the aft also!
