I noticed the Norwegian Spirit will be going to Alaska and then to San Francisco as a repo. cruise. Since I live in Northern CA that seems great & the price is extremely low. However, the cruise doesn't leave Vancouver until Sept. 26th (or somewhere around there) goes through the inside passage, hits the main Alaska ports, back through the inside passage, stops in Eureka, then on to San Francisco. I just took a pacific coastal cruise on the Coral princess, so I'm anxious for another cruise but I'm concerned based on what I've heard about the Norwegian line, and the time of year, that booking this could be a huge mistake. Any comments that can help me out???
First of all, as far as the choice of ships, the Spirit is a beautiful ship.
I live in Seattle and undoubtedly you are taking a gamble booking an Alaska cruise in September. However, if you do decide to make the booking, just toss a sweater and a lightweight rain proof jacket in with your wardrobe and you'll be fine. Alaska can be beautiful with the mountains shrowded in mist! Enjoy!
My husband & I went to Alaska in late September 3 years ago. We left on 9/22. I was told that the weather is usually drier at that time of year. Ha! We had the most miserable climate. It rained most of the time. We still had a TOTAL BLAST!!! Loved Alaska. The ships put hot drinks and blankets on the decks. We had an inside cabin, but spent quite a bit of time outdoors (under the decking cover) Be sure to bundle up.
I say GO FOR IT!!!! You will have a FABULOUS TIME! BTW, I live in the SF Bay Area. If you would like to send me an e-mail my address is email@example.com.
