Crown review 8/29-9/5-2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is my review :We were a family of 5-2 adults and 3 children ages 10-8-6.Boarding : We were at the terminal at 11:30 am,we got our id cards, they take a picture in which everytime they swipe you in and out, your picture comes up on their computer screen, so make sure you always carry it with you. Boarding took no more than a half hour. We were on the ship by 12:15 and went to check out our rooms. We were on Laguna deck rooms 5078-5080. The rooms were spacious and had plenty of draws. The beds in our room were not together, so the cabin steward whose name was Roy Mclean put our beds together. My childrens room had 2 beds and a bunkbed. Bathrooms were adequate, very hot water in the shower and sink.We took a tour of the ship and went and had lunch. The ship left at 4:00 pm on the dot. 4 coast guard boats followed us to the Verranzano Bridge and the Dawn was behind us. Luggage was at our room not to long after we got on. The first night we ate at the Seven Seas, you did not have to get dressed up on the first night, but after that you had to wear a pair of dress pants and shirt. We waited no more than 5 minutes to be seated. We were so impressed from the service we received, that we decided to eat at that table for the rest of the week. Our waitress's name was Fe Agcaoili and the waiter was Librado Catimbang both of the Phillipines. They knew us all by name, there was nothing but teamwork in the restaurant and all over, what a system they all had. There was a variety food, i'll try to remember some of them, they had veal, lamb, pork, beef, chicken, etc. They had hot soups and cold soups, fire ice melon soup, pistachio and banana and others. One night they had a presidental menu, on that menu they had some favorites from the past presidents, cant remember them, my wife had the Jaqueline Kennedy salad, which was a pretty simple salad, but she loved it. They offered a fish entree every night and a vegetarian dish too. I ordered everything, you can order more than 1 entree, on the last night i sampled 3 entrees, one of tem was a pork chop which was dry the other i think was a veal which was cut thin like roast beef in some kind of marinade. For breakfast we went to the Yacht Club which was a buffet, they had scrambled eggs which was very mushy, maybe they were powdered eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, thick french toast, cerals, yogurts , fruits, assorted danishes, and the crossaints were the best. We mostly ate breakfast in the Seven Seas restaurant, they had more of a selection, eggs any way you wanted them, pancakes and so on. As far as snacks you could go to the Cafe Italia and snack there, only went once and they had pizza, thats at the back of the ship bu the jacuzzi, also in the casino they would have some finger foods and at the Top of the Crown in the club. Entertainment was ok, not bad. They had the Jean Ann Ryan Co. which were dancers from Canada, two guys called Sharkbait, who did some juggling and rode a unicycle, and a comedian Steven Van Zandt who was funny especially when he did his Rocky impersonation with scotch tape on his face(remember when Rocky won his fight and he was calling Adrienne, Adrienne and his face was all swollen) thats what the comedian did. They had some singer on there that i never heard of-Elvy Rose. The cruise director was Simon and his assistant was Karl ,both were great and funny, but i think Karls last day was on Sunday. Monday was 70's night and i got picked to be a judge in a contest, the ladies had to act out the song " I Will Survive", when they were done, we had to do a dance from "Saturday Night Fever", it was embarrassing for me because i really don't dance, but i came in second and we got a coffee mug and the winner got a tote bag with some stuff inside. I lost alot of money in the casino, i wasn't to lucky . They had alot of slot machines, maybe 3 blackjack tables, craps, poker, roulette ,also they had a slot machine tournement, but i don't know if they got to keep the money. Price of drinks was not bad about $5.75. We only bought 2 soda cards and they put a sprite sticker on your id card, they charged $28 each for the soda cards and then they put an automatic gratuity of $7.00 on it, everything goes on your card and evey time you order a drink, there is a automatic gratuity. We would take turns with the soda, ice tea was unsweetened, so the sugar would never dissolve, but the had different juices for the kids. I think "Freestyle" is the way to cruise, because you can eat at whatever time you wanted, like Seven Seas , you could eat there from 5:30- 10:00. St. George was our first port. It was beautiful. First place we went was to Tobacco Bay Beach, we took a taxi ride there for about $6 for 5 of us, we saw people walking there up these long narrow roads, probably a 20 minute walk. The water was beautiful and very salty, but refreshing, fish swimming by your feet. Then we took a walk to Ft. St. Catherines a great place to view the island. This was an old British fort, was not expensive to get in. At night they had a street fair for everyone from the cruise ship. People in Bermuda are very nice. It is very expensive to live there, one man i met in the local grocery store was buying a loaf of bread and it was $4.50 for the loaf and gas is alot of money too. Second portHamilton very nice houses there. Took a taxi tour for $150.00 for 3 hours he took us to Crystal Caverns which was nice. The taxi waited for us. $12 per adult and $7 for children 5 and over. we went to Gibbs lighthouse and we had the taxi drop us off at Jobson Cove beach. It had nice pink sand and beautiful rocks and big waves. At night they had a street fair with booths selling all kinds of stuff, like jewlery, crafts and etc. Port 3 Kings Wharf, not much to see there. They had an aquarium there wich we didn't go to. they had a small shopping mall with gifts shops. We went to the glass factory where they make all kinds of glassware in front of you. It was very hot in there and pretty expensive. You could rent scooters for about $ 45 a day and bring it back by the ship overnight and return it the next day. Chocoholic buffet was outrageous there was alot of variety to pick from. We were the first in line, had the kids waiting there to keep a spot for us. Bingo was alitlle expensive 4 games of 6 cards on each game $29 or you could get the electronic bingo for $49 for i think 12 cards. There were raffles too for a free cruise I could probably still go on, but I am very tired. If i missed anything please let me know or somelse could add on to.The ride home was smooth sailing the only time we felt sick was monday on the way to Bermuda. We all enjoyed the trip very much and definitley would sail Norweigian again. By the way they do check Immigrants! My wife is a resident alien from Italy, she has been in the United States since she was 10 years old and immigration kept her passport in New York until we got back, so they do check the immigrants , well i hope you like my review
