We will be on the Dawn on 2/24/08 with a stop in Tortola on 2/27. I would like to hear from recent cruisers who have visited Virgin Gorda. Specifically, did you use the Ship Excursion or a local agent? How convenient in terms of time and effort was your excursion?
I have seen that the ship charges $65 per person for this excursion and one local carrier (Speedy's) advertises that they have a trip with ferry boat to Virgin Gorda for $35. I have always wanted to visit this island and will not miss it. I would like to get a good price if all else is equal. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

(Currently 12 degrees F and snowing in Buffalo)

We went ahead with NCL's excursion just in case, heard from elsewhere online that sometimes the ferries break down from time to time. Didn't seem to be any problems in December with the ferries, but you never know.

the only time we did Virgin Gordo we too used the ships excursion. If we did it again I think I would do a private tour (time permitting) $35 versus $65 is a big difference.

Nita, thanks for your reply, I always enjoy reading your posts and you are truly a voice of experience. When we go to Virgin Gorda, is there anything that is a "must-see" (other than the Baths of course)?

I have always wanted to go to this beach and hope that the weather is good the day we get there. Have you ever heard of the ships not being able to dock at Tortola due to high waves/winds/etc? This happened to us a couple of times at Cozumel in the past.

I would appreciate any other info. about this port.
