There was a long discussions before the first cruise.
How does it looks ?
here are my obserwations:
If you are not on bord you don't see the ship,
only small part of it, if you have not more then
2 heads of course.
But who cares - people without ticket
don't need to enjoy the ship at all.
My first impression as I was on Bord-
what an ugly ship for 4000 people is it -
Boring casino, useless shopping mole, no windows
on the entertainment decks, small swimming pools,
sauna - small dark rooms - the best place
with great view are the toilets on pool deck - they have
full windows and great ocean observation - but one can not seat the whole day there.
So at first I find Epic extreem ugly.
But then I get my room/balcony key
and I told myself WOW (I hate this dog-word, but I spelled it).
Cabin is great - that was really luxus I've never
seen before - modern and cosy - great bed
and huge balcony, crazy arc walls
and tea/coffee automat.
I don't think they have such acommodations
even in Paradize (If there is any of cource)
So my answer is clear - Epic is ugly-nice.
And I would ask everybody do get
a ticket to confirm my opinion.
My opinion, it looks like a container ship, my opinion the central point of the ship is the casino, which may incredible smoke issues, the casino really does not have a ceiling so the middle of the casino is open, like a big smoke stack kind of, the smoke permeates the floors, so even if you are a floor above you can still get the smoke of the casino. I think ncl delivers a pretty adequate product, I enjoy their cruises, that said I will not sail on the epic, in my opinion it is not your typical cruise experience. No promenade deck on the epic.
Yes you are right, but I must say that though I am extremely sensitive about cigarette smoke I didn't feel the casino smoke to be really a problem for me
There was maybe 3-4 people ( I did'nt count) who smoke there and modern ventilation is very good,
so I need to get some distance maybe 3-4 m to the smoking people
and then I feel me comfortable.
Even on the open street I need app 10 m distance to the smoker.
Nowhere on the ship else I get the cigarette smoking.
So if you are not really a casino Fan you would "survive".
nevertheless as a say the NCL smoke politic have no cense for me.
I mean , theoretically it is terrible but practically - not really a big deal.
I agree that past smokers are worse then smokers. I to use to smoke, for only 2 years, but I cannot stand the smell of it. I do not want to be close to anyone smoking.
Oh by the way I also think the Epic is a very ugly ship. I think it needs the butt redone.

My how the subject changed from whether the ship was ugly or not, to the issue of smoking. I haven't cruised her, but have heard great things as well as awful things about the ship. It seems to be one of thsoe love/hate situations.
Now, to address the smoking issue: apparently the smoking ordor is much worse in the casino on the Epic compared to many other ships. Cabin smoke, for all of those who are worried about the smell, we are non smokers and have never smelled smoke in any cabin except once on HAL> For some reason the cleaning crew does a great job of filtering any ordors out prior to the next guests occupying a cabin. Though I hate the smell (I am an X smoker) I also think we all need to learn to bend and compromise. For all who think smoking should not be allowed in the cabins, then where do you think it should be allowed? I would rather passengers smoke in private than in the public areas.
