First, a big thank you for all of the information I have found on this site. Great stuff and wonderful people!
We head out on the Dawn next Sunday. We have not yet booked an excursion for Samana. I understand that they are now tendering guest to the island for free.
If that is true, we thought about just doing that for the day but we would also like to view some whales if there are some about. Can you do so from the island or book a tour on the island to take you to view the whales?
Marsdude, I have not been to this port, and I know other cm'ers will pop into this thread to help, but, do you mean the ship is charging passengers to tend you to the pier for a fee? I have never heard of this.
Trip, with her book & tea!

Samana is a very boring port, sorry!!! I do not know about whales in the area but I think it is probably pretty uncommon. But you can see what tours are available on the NCL web site or google "Samana whale tours" and if there is anything at all it will pop up.
If you do not want to be bored there you should go snorkeling - I think it has some nice reefs, it is sort of a long peninsula.
