Default NEW - Norwegian’s Ultimate Dining Package

This just came out and I think its a really good deal. The prices seem to be really go as far as I can tell, assuming all restaurants are included.


Norwegian Cruise Line today introduced an all-new way for guests to have access to one of Norwegian’s specialty restaurants every night of their cruise. Called “Norwegian’s Ultimate Dining Package,” this new program provides the opportunity for guests to experience each of the line’s most popular specialty restaurants including Cagney’s, the line’s signature steakhouse; French bistro, Italian restaurant, Moderno Churrascaria, Asian-Fusion Restaurant and more*, at a special rate based on the length of the cruise. The package is currently available on all Norwegian ships fleet wide.

“We are excited to offer guests the Ultimate Dining Package, giving them the opportunity to experience each of our incredible specialty restaurants,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line's chief executive officer. “The Ultimate Dining Package truly captures the essence of Freestyle Cruising by allowing guests to dine in the specialty restaurant of their choice, every night of their cruise, at one very reasonable package price.”

The Ultimate Dining Package gives guests the opportunity to have a taste of something deliciously new every night of their cruise when they experience the array of specialty restaurants found on board Norwegian ships. Diners will delight in Norwegian’s signature steakhouse, featuring succulent grilled steaks, perfectly cooked double cut lamb chops and other delectable steakhouse favorites. Another one of Norwegian’s signature specialty restaurants is the French bistro, where guests will enjoy French favorites such as escargot, coq au vin and a spectacular vanilla crème brulee for dessert. Guests will also love dining in Norwegian’s traditional Italian restaurant, where they can feast on a variety of pastas, made-to-order specialty pizzas, and other Italian favorites such as chicken parmesan and osso bucco in a casual atmosphere. At Norwegian’s Asian Fusion restaurant, guests can experience the flavors of the far east including Japanese Teppanyaki, Chinese or Pan-Asian Cuisine. Meat lovers will delight in the opportunity to dine in Moderno Churrascaria, where unlimited servings of succulent Brazilian barbeque are served tableside by Norwegian’s own passadores.

Norwegian’s Ultimate Dining Package is available in tiers based on cruise length. On three to six day voyages, guests can dine anywhere throughout their cruise at a set price of $59 per person; for seven-day voyages, the package is $119 per person; $149 per person on eight to 10 day cruises; $199 per person for cruises of 10 to 15 days; $259 per person during cruises of 16 days to 25 days; $299 per person during cruises of 26 days to 35 days and $349 per person during cruises of 36 days to 45 days.

To take advantage of the Ultimate Dining Package, guests with a current cruise reservation can either pre-purchase the package by logging into their “myncl” account on Cruise Deals | Vacations | Norwegian Cruise Line, by contacting Norwegian reservations at 888-NCL-CRUISE or by purchasing the package on board during the first or second day of their cruise.

Zakharian's Ocean Blue on the Breakaway and Getaway is excluded as are the ala carte venues for sushi and noodle bar. Also not included are the dinner and show packages for Cirque Dreams and the Illusionarium.

This is a good package for someone who knows they will dine at a specialty 6 or 7 nights on a 7 night cruise. You would probably need at least 6 nights in order to pass the breakeven point depending on the cover charges for the venues you choose.

Realistically, we usually only dine at specialties 3 or 4 times on a 7 night cruise. If on a ship where there is a dinner/show package as with Cirque or Illusionarium, we'd do that one night. We would probably be tired after a port day and hit the buffet or 24 hour place a night or two, probably one of the MDRs at least once. So we just would not get our money's worth out of it.

The savings seem to go up somewhat on the longer cruises, $199 for 14 days rather than 2 x the $119 fee or $238.

Our CruiseReviews editor checked this out, he said OBlue and other a la carte places are included at 20% off the cost of any item.

I think that Moderno and Cagneys are up to about $45/night now, so if you ate there every night you would be way ahead.

I love both of those places. Le Bistro is also good. Teppenaki is worthwhile just for the experience.

Yes, I remember seeing that there was a 20% discount for those.

4 nights in specialties plus one night dinner show at a discount, I calculate at $120. The package is $119. We are not likely to do more than that, so it just is not worth it to me. But it may be a saving to those would would realistically use it more than me.

Unless there was a recent increase in the cover charges I have not heard about, the cover for Cagney's is $30, LeBistro is $20 and Moderno is $20. The highest venue is Ocean Blue, I believe at $49. Teppanyaki I believe is $25. So if you ate at those 4 excluding ocean Blue, you would only be at $95 in cover charges.

I love NCL, but my feeling is that just like with the beverage packages, they are hoping that people will buy the packages without thought and then not fully utilize them, therefore putting extra $ in profits for NCL. We would have to be sent back to our cabins every night in a wheelbarrow if we came out ahead on their beverage package.

I'll be on the first 7 night cruise of Getaway on February 8 and plan to dine in several specialty places. Teppanaki is on my list for sure, as is the Moderno Churrascaria. I'll make sure to not eat anything after 9am on the evening of the Brazilian place. I've made that mistake before and couldn't revel in the parade of meats as much as I wanted to.

I'll be right behind you, Dave, on the February 22nd sailing..

I agree about Moderno! But for me it is the salad bar there that is the draw. It alone is worth the $20 cover fee. I intend to fill up there and just nibble at the meats. Those fried bananas and roasted pineapple are not bad either. And don't miss Cagney's! We had a great steak there in December on the Epic.

I'm not too up on the conditions of the package but I also hope that you can use it multiple times in one restaurant. Italian is not my favorite but I love Cagney's, Le Bistro and Moderno.

When we sail on NCL, we usually budget about $100/pp for alternative dining but usually don't spend that much. We will have dinner in the MDR once or twice on a seven day cruise.

It may or may not be worth it to you depending on which venues you would choose, the number of nights and their cover charges.

From what I have read, there are no restrictions on the number of times you can choose a particular venue. The alacartes like the noodle and sushi bar would be at 20% off. I don't know about lunch for those.

I have heard speculation that you could have salad bar at Moderno for your appetizer, move to Cagneys for the entree, and then head to Le Bistro for dessert and coffee.

You're thinking to small :P

Dinner goes from 5pm-11pm right? I would imagine you could hit every specialty restaurant in that time and have your favorite dish at each.

Sounds good in theory, but unfortunately I am the one who is feeling stuffed after the salad or soup entree. I'd never make it to the second venue! If you can pull this off, go for it!

I'm sorry, but I would not pay $119 per person to dine in a specialty restaurant every night on a cruise. Call me cheap, call me unsophisticated, but to me (us) the meals offered in the main dining rooms are sufficiently "upscale", almost always delicious, plenty of options, and most of all, free.
For the most part, saving for a cruise means only the basics, I can't afford any extras.
Many of the specialty places, particularly pasta and or seafood do not appeal because a) I can't eat pasta (gluten-intolerant) and b) I don't like seafood. Other than steaks, it would be a waste of money for me.

I actually think they have it set up so both restaurants share the same salad bar (on Epic, anyway). I was wrong about the cover going to $49 (probably thinking of Blue) I think it is $30.

I only wish it were true. Just off the Epic, and no salad bar at all in Cagneys. As a matter of fact, there is no NCL restaurant that has a salad bar, except of course the buffet, except for the one in Moderno and it is very large indeed. People find it odd to hear people go on and on about a salad bar, but I have to say I don't think I've ever seen a salad bar anywhere, land based included, that compares. It alone is worth the cover charge.

I totally get your point of view. We usually budget around $70 per person for the both of us for specialty restaurants and that gives us about 3 nights away from the buffet or main diningroom. I have had some excellent steaks in Cagneys, and then there's that to die for salad bar and side dishes at Moderno and lots of meat variety on the skewers if you have any room left. We just enjoy the atmosphere, not to mention the food. I guess we're spending money others would use in the casino or on excursions. Give it a try once if your budget allows, you may get hooked.

It seems to be a good deal for those who would eat in Specialty Restaurants each night.

It doesn't seem to be a fit for us, both of us being platinum we will get Le Bistro for two nights and lobster night in MDR that will only leave four nights for Specialty Restaurants to use up the $119. It would be four meals at Cagney's.

Cagney's $30
Teppanyaki $25
Le Bistro $20
Moderno $20
La Cucina $15
Asian $15


On longer cruises it could work.
UDP prices are as follows:
• $59 per person during cruises of 3 to 6 days.
• $119 per person during cruises of 7 days.
• $149 per person during cruises of 8 to 9 days.
• $199 per person during cruises of 10 days to 15 days
• $259 per person during cruises of 16 days to 25 days
• $299 per person during cruises of 26 days to 35 days
• $349 per person during cruises of 36 days to 45 days

Seems like a fantastic deal. We thought the food in the main dining room was awful on NCL so we'd definitely opt for this. We were tempted by our upcoming cruise on Celebrity to try their dining package at $29 pp pd.

Personally, I would skip the lobster night in the MDR and go to Cagneys or another place that serves a better lobster.

The MDR lobster is Caribbean, in fact I think it might be just large Prawns. It wasn;t anything to write home about when I tried it on Epic, anyway.

By the way, the best lobster I ever had on a cruise ship (not counting my small-ship cruise on Blount in Maine which was just amazing), was in Europe on Princess in the main steakhouse.

As I recall it was the cost of the steakhouse PLUS a surcharge, but man it was really good. Better than I have had in restaurants in Maine.

But on the Blount small ship - they bought over 100 fresh lobsters and smoked them outside over charcoal covered with seaweed. The lobster meat was steamed and brined at the same time. I never had such a good lobster (actually two of them).

I am with you on skipping the MDR lobster. Never was a lobster fan anyway, but then maybe I have just never had a really good one. I don't think the up charge for the good ones is that steep, and I have heard that you can still get those free MDR ones on the side in a specialty restaurant if you want.

When there was a recent glut of lobster in Maine, NCL was bringing on fresh Maine lobster for awhile on their cruises out of Boston. I have heard they pick up fresh lobster in Kona on their Hawaiian cruises! and I'll find out in August.

Paul...I'm guessing since the $199 price is for cruises of 10 to 15 days...that the $149 price is for cruises 8 to 9 days rather than 8 to 10 days...right?...or is the $199 price for 11 to 15 days?

We purchased this package for our June 14th sailing on Getaway. We had a similar package on Celebrity Reflection last year. We did the apps, main course and then dessert at 3 different specialty restaurants. I was told by an NCL rep on the phone that we can do this. They also said make reservations at each restaurant. Let's see if LeBistro on Getaway measures up to Murano on Reflection.

This would work great for us as we're not fans of the food in the MDR on NCL, but really like their specialty restaurants.

We've never minded paying a little extra for the specialty restaurants on any cruise because we've always felt the food, ambiance, and experience was worth it.

So this is definitely exciting news to us.
