The unbelievable SHEAR RUDENESS of Biden during this debate interrupting Paul Ryan 85 times!
It frankly made me sick to think this man is our Veep, and people wonder why we criticize the Obama team for not being bipartisan?
I don't care if you disagree with 100% of what the other person is saying - there is just absolutely no need to treat the other candidate in a Presidential race with this kind of disrespect.
And I only feel sorry for (1) Paul Ryan who is too well-mannered not to respond in kind and (2) the American people who had to suffer through this blowhard performance by Biden instead of getting a real debate.
The more I watch this debate the more I get two reactions - that Paul Ryan makes more & more sense (when I can ignore the distractions I know are coming and listen to what he says) and that Biden is just unbearable. He was a heckler, and a bully, and in a high school debate he would have flunked.
If you are having a conversation and you hear someone say things that you honestly believe are "lies", I think you interrupt and "call them" on it; and at least attempt to respond to your questions. And then you both argue your points
In the case of a "debate", if both parties simply end up talking over each other, the moderator moderates.
I actually think all the talking points about Obama looking down, Biden smiling and smirking, and Ryan over hydrating are just diversions. Both had opportunities to make their points clear, in the context of the limited time available.
The real point is what kind of a job they did doing that. Eventually the voters will be the deciders on that question.
This is exactly what I explained many, many posts ago.
This is just like a cocktail party. The idea is to talk as much as possible, ideally without taking a breath, and absolutely don't waste any more time than is necessary, preferably none, listening to what anyone else is saying.
I didn't think it was funny. I thought it made him look goofy and with no manners at all. Ironically, Joe would have been the clear winner if he had not done this, because he was very convincing in his points (not that I agree with them, or think he was being honest, but I do recognize when someone is being convincing).
I am the editor, but I also speculate, ask questions and play devil's advocate. I reserve the right to change my mind.
Why not put the responses in writing in advance. The moderator can highlight differences, and then let candidates explain, mike of the opponent muted, why their position is better. If they go off topic, kill both mikes.
The debates are a joke anyway. The Presidency isn't a prize you win on a game show.
It also does not seem proper to call people names.
It never is proper to call people names.
