Default Ocean Princess 4/22/01

Just booked for April. We sailed the Grand last year. Does anyone have experiences to share about the Southern Explorer ports of call? Any info would be helpful about the ship or ports. What will happen to the Ocean Princess when it leaves the fleet in 2002?

Hi Bob,
We cruised on Ocean last spring and did the southern itinary, which is my favorite, not sure which islands you will be going to, but all in all we loved the ship, very easy to get around, cabins were adequate, nice balcony, but could of been larger. The food and service were excellent, you'll love it!

Bumble Bee,

I saw the news article! It's too bad. She's a great ship!

Fortunately, she is not leaving the Princess fleet until October -- which is the scheduled inaugural of MV Coral Princess.

Norm.

Bob,

I have been to three of the five ports within the past six months.

>> In Aruba, the Catamaran Sail, Snorkel, Barbecue, and Beach is a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I can't say that some of the other excursions would not be equally worthwhile.

>> On Dominica, I enjoyed the Grand Tour of Dominica but it is a full day.

>> In St. Thomas, I regard the "Champagne Catamaran Sailaway to St. John" as a "no brainer" -- it's definitely worth every penny of the price.

A few years ago, my parents had a great time on Granada and, true to the island's nickname, brought home some spices among their souvenirs. They also took an excursion to Caracas from La Guaira, where you probably would do well to take an excursion if you wish to go ashore due to security considerations.

MV Ocean Princess is a magnificent ship. Have a great cruise!

Norm.

Thanks for the info Norm .. very good info. After reading some reviews of shore trips I'm becoming a bit concerned about safety in Granada and Dominica. Seems like we are going to some very poor islands. Should we be overly concerned about going out on our own, or is staying with the tours the best way to go. Also ... can we bring spices back to the US with a customs hassle. Thanks for any insight you can give. Bob

Does anyone know who currently is Maitre'd on the Ocean Princess? Also, the Cruise Director? Captain? Please reply to board. Thanks.

According to the Princess web site, the Ocean Princess will transfer to P&O in the fall of 2002. The Coral Princess is to be delivered around the same time, fall 2002.
My wife and I are trying to decide on the Ocean Princess for an extended Caribbean cruise or the Celebrity Summit for a extended Caribbean cruise. Have been on both lines and feel it would come down to the itinerary. We are looking at Feb or March 2002.

We just got back from the Ocean P. Souther C. trip. Next year it is going to P & O in Europe. We really liked the ferry trip to St. John. We also had a long bus trip in Caracas (supposed to be 7 1/2 hours and was 9 hours) and Grenada. In Aruba, you can get a public bus for $2 round trip and go to the beaches, the Mariot has the same towels as the ship, so it is safe to go there. There are lots of beautiful sights on this cruise.
