Default Alternate dining on Grand

Can anyone offer any info on the southwestern eatery on the Grand. I believe it is called the Painted Dessert. Is it worth the extra, or would you stick to the main dining rooms?

thanks!
Jeannie

The extra charge is only $3.50 which isn't much. Back when we had it, the food was fresh and imaginative, but the salsa was very bland, which I can understand. If you like Tex-Mex, bring a bottle of tabasco along to spice up the salsa. They make GREAT margaritas.

It was priced free once, then was $3.50 when we sailed last December. I heard recently it was $8 but included a free margarita. I have heard it recently was going to be changed to $10.

I didn't think the menu was that great - prefer dining room food. We ate there for lunch and it was ok - take note that it takes 2-3 hours to eat there so it was a long lunch. We had the filet mignon and it was good.

We were just on the 9-23 sailing and ate at the painted desert. The charge was $8 and included a margarita (medium sized and good). We went on a night when the dining room menu didn't thrill us. The appetizers and such were OK, we both had the Tequilla shrimp which were wonderfull. We ate when it first opened and actually had a fairly quick meal. All in all, for $8 I think it was worth it. If the charge goes too much higher I would probably say no. Have a great time.

Hi, We were just on the 10/7 Grand and it was $8.00 with a Margarita. The food has definatley gotten spicer. We were on in April when it was free and the it wasn't as spicy. I thought both the guacamole and salsa very hot and spicy if you like this you will enjoy it. It is cooked to order and is a liesurely experience, but on a day a sea..we had nowhere to be.
Enjoy, Marci

Carole,

The extra charge is only $3.50...

I understand that they raised the charge a few months ago.

When it was just a tip for the waitstaff, it made sense. Any more than that is out of line.

Norm.

We ate lunch there back in May when it was "free",
and were not impressed. Food was no better than typical
Tex-Mex places such as El Chico and On the Border that we
have here in Texas. And the service was very slow, (40 minutes to get appetizers!) with somewhat of a "so-what" attitude. I definitely would not pay extra to
eat there, dining room food is much better, as is the
buffet. Restaurant is also in a terrible location, with
people passing through all the time to get from one end of
ship to the other, especially in the evening.
Like eating in Times Square. Whenever we went through, most of the tables were empty. Overall I could not recommend it.

On the other hand we thought Sabatini's was worth the
extra charge, for dinner as a change, and an experience.
Service very good, attentive, and excellent food served promptly.
