Almost all ships have them... watch the daily program for "Friends of Bill W" listing. It was years before I figured out who this ubiquitous Bill W was and why he had so many friends.
So many times on the years I've been posting on cruise boards I see questions about "Friends of Bill W." Most of the time they're something like "How can this group cruise so much. They must be very rich." Or "How can I join this club?" Iwish the alanon part of the organization had existed when I was younger. I had alcoholics in my family and would really have benefitted from learning how to cope with it.
I did not see anything about any special Princess AA meeting rules in my Cruise Answer Book. Hopefully the attending members follow the suggestions in the Big Book onboard?
The meetings I attended on the Ocean Princess were that of a discussion meeting, no one read "how it works" or the preamble. No one chaired the meeting, just went around the table and introduced ourselves and shared our experience strength and hope with each other. In the Princess Patter you get delivered every evening, it will say friends of Bill W. BTW, princess decides where/when the meetings will be on the ship-not the aa members. I got friendly with some of the aa's and we met when and where we wanted, as the times/places princess picked were bad. After the first meeting listed in the patter you can all arrange an alternate place/time if need be. BTW, We hung out all week together I just celebrated 6 years! YaY...
Norm, you do not need a sponsor to attend aa meetings, just a desire not to drink. , it is strongly suggested you get a sponsor but not a requirement.
Thanks Cheryl. My facetious remarks towards Norm were really an attempt to get him to lighten up. He's such a rule follower and seems to be a part of the Princess Police. I am glad to hear there are meetings aboard the ships. I will try to attend while on my cruise in a few weeks. It is so nice to meet other members from around the world. I have met quite a few in my travels but have never been on a large ship cruise. I will be sailing solo and perhaps I will meet someone to hang out with like you did.
