Default Baggage Handling

I read some stories of some cruisers luggage ending up in the water while being loaded and unloaded onto the ship. Does Princess allow you to carry on your own luggage? I understand its not for everyone, but I will only have 1 piece of luggage anyway.

You can carry on your own luggage if it will fit through the scanner. These are approximately the same size as the airport carry on scanners. In general, a carry on bag or a garment bag will fit. Anything larger must be checked.

I know the stories you've been reading and I can say that it's very unusual for bags to end up "in the water". IMO, I wouldn't worry about it!

This is going to be my first cruise. You hear one bad story and you think its the norm. Thanks for sharing your experiences

While boarding our cruise last year we were able to watch them load the baggage onboard. After watching them pass the baskets full of bags thru the side of the boat it would be amazing if they didn't lose one or two. However they did have nets between the dock and the boat to catch anything that might fall.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. I'm sure that you are much more likely to have a bag go missing on a flight to the cruise than one falling overboard.

All cruise lines are notorious at bad handling of bags some are very bad, the worst bit is the lift drop they put four mattresses at the bottom of the service lift open the doors each level and down they go. Most of the damage is done on dock side so that's not the cruise staff The guys who drive the forklift trucks in Barbados need to stay off the weed they are bad
