Mattresses (Suite vs Balcony) on Caribbean Princess

Hi! I'm new to the Cruise Mates Boards and to Princess. I am ready to book our summer cruise leaving from NYC, but need some help from you Princess experts.

I am debating between a BA balcony on the Caribe deck and an AC mini suite on the Dolphin deck. My deciding factor, believe it or not, has to do with the mattresses. I am a total mattress snob. We have a Sleep Number bed at home, and when we travel I will almost always stay at a Westin for the Heavenly beds. If I get a bad night sleep I am a cranky mom and wife. This is a 10 day cruise, and I don't want to be a cranky mom/wife. The Princess brochure indicates that mattresses in the mini-suites and above are luxury/deluxe. So, can someone tell me if there is a huge difference in the comfort of the beds in staterooms that are categories above a BA?

BTW, I loved the mattresses on HAL's Oosterdam and Disney's Magic. The beds on NCL? Not so much.

The mini will cost $600 more, for our family of three, which is the cost of our airfare, and is fairly significant! I love the idea of the larger and split balcony on the Caribe deck, and would likely book one provided there isn't a huge difference in the comfort of the beds. Otherwise, I likely will plunk down the dough to get a good nights sleep.

I think if a good nights sleep meant that much to me I would never leave my own bed. I wouldn't want to be a real grouch for ten days.
LOL LOL LOL Jim..

I too love a comfortable bed! Maybe you could buy yourself a memory foam matress, roll it up and bring it with you in an extra suitcase? Heck...with all suitecases between the whole family, you could probably fit it in without any extras. The cost savings and the assured comfort you will have, regardless of the unknown mattress underneith might be worth thinking about :)

You can buy thin ones, 1 1/2 inch with the egg shell pattern, which roll up or fold quite nicely into your suitecase...and provide wonderful packing for delicate items

cheers

I am agree with both of you Jim and Tony, I too love to sleep comfortably on my bed and if any body is having a back pain problem while sleeping then memory foam mattress is the best option.

In my opinion, Princess has very comfortable beds. And the ones in the balcony cabin versus the junior suite will be exactly the same - absolutely no difference whatsoever. The only difference between the two cabins is the size - the junior suite is our favorite because it affords us more room - but that's it.

Now, should you ever find a bed on any ship to not be to your liking, simply ask your cabin steward to provide you with a 'topper'. Sometimes this will be a simple egg-crate type foam rubber topper, but other times it can be a memory foam-type topper, which we actually got on an NCL cruise a couple of years ago.

Personally, we've always loved the beds on Celebrity, Holland America, and Princess, but more and more, cruise lines are realizing how important it is to provide good bedding to their passengers, so things they are a changing.

Cruise Mates name have its own value. The facilities provided by them are good. No doubt about that are competive for no.1 Crusier in the America. Hollywood celebrities are also like to take a trip of the Cruiser mate boards. And about your question, my opinion is that what typw of comfort zone you like, It's always not possible to available on each cruiser. Before chosing Cruiser for trip, Confirm with cruiser what type of facilities you want on the trip. It's best way to deal with others.

NCL's freestyle 2 is the great memory foam toppers-however the NCL Sky did not have that back in 2010 and that was the worst bed I have ever had on a cruise.

I haven't taken a Princess cruise since 2006 (on Caribbean Princess) so I really can't help on what they have now-I'm only here because we are considering a California coastal cruise this fall. (either Sapphire Princess or Grand Princess-anyone know what they have?)

I do love having a comfortable bed (fibromylga)-although we have a Sealy Postropedic Pillow top mattress I still have a memory foam topper of 4 inches on it. I do not like mattress that is all memory foam-I feel I still need the springs-but I need the cushioning of the toppers.
