Default Sapphire Princess Review, Part 2

Sapphire Princess, Part 2
Day 2, Sunday Oct. 12/08 Sea Day

Awakened very early and had to put our watches ahead another hour.
On arriving in California, we had to put our watches back 3 hours, now ahead 1 hour.
Our body clocks were very confused!

There's nothing like waking up (or going to sleep) to the sound of the ocean in your wake, and the view from our balcony was splendid!

One of the first things James did was to confront our room steward in the hall and ask what had happened last night.
It seems there was a misunderstanding, or so he said. He had been in our cabin in the early evening, delivering something, having a nice chat, and before we left for dinner, he had asked if we needed anything else for the evening, and we had said no. Somehow, he thought all was well, and overlooked cleaning and preparing our room for the night.
To make a long story short, he apologized profusely, and for the rest of the week, he couldn't do enough for us, and our room was spotless!

Breakfast in Horizon Court was good, and the choices were varied and interesting. I discovered an Asian breakfast dish called Chicken Congee, which was a mixture of warm rice and chicken broth with bits of chicken. An odd choice for breakfast, but simply delicious!

After breakfast, we headed directly to the aft (Terrace) Pool area in the sun, but it was cool enough to stay dressed.

I met up with Heather and Penny for Trivia at 10am, and although we had fun, we didn't win. In fact, we played all week, having fun, and didn't win until the very last game on Friday!
Back out in the sun, we met up with Frank and chatted the morning away, having an interesting conversation about of all things, In & Out Burgers! Fellow passengers agreed that they were the best, and now I want to try them!

Basically, it was a lazy sea day, catching up on our sleep and readjusting our body clocks, enjoying the sun and the sea.
Isn't that what cruising is all about?

This was our first formal night on board, so by 5pm I went in to get ready. We had arranged to meet Heather and Penny after their dinner, but before ours, so that we could have formal portraits taken together.
We met in the Atrium, where there was a lovely classical music trio playing, and people were gathered either for portraits or for the Captain's Welcome Aboard Cocktail party.
We had our portraits done, and had quite a bit of fun doing it, especially the one of James and his "harem"!

The Captain's Cocktail Party was a brief affair, consisting of 1 drink, no hor d'oeuvres, and the Cruise Director introducing the Captain and staff from a 2nd level balcony overlooking the lobby.

I thought there would be a little more fanfare, with the party held in one of the lounges, with drinks and snacks circulating with the wait staff, and live music for dancing. A bit of a disappointment for Princess here.

Our formal night dinner with Frank and Don and Shirley was pleasant, and the food excellent.

However, we found the service slow and lacking in any wait-staff interaction. They were efficient enough, but just doing their job, not very friendly or talkative, and certainly no sense of humour. Service was so slow this evening that we were the last ones to leave the dining room, and barely made it to the Princess Theatre in time for the 2nd show.

Tonight's production of "Do You Wanna Dance?" was excellent; good singers, excellent dancers, costumes, choreography, colourful and imaginative. We were very relieved to hear that the featured singers were actually good singers. We've heard some less than stellar performers in the past!

Following the show, we were too tired to do anything else, so it was straight to bed.
Before retiring for the night, we ordered a very special breakfast from room service for tomorrow......
Goodnight......
