If you didn't purchase the transfers with cruise line the only way would be a taxi. LAX to Los Angeles port pretty easy
Make sure you know which port you need . There is a Long Beach and a Los Angeles port ,they are a few miles apart

Check out SuperShuttle or PrineTime Shuttle service, flat fee. A taxi would be expensive especially if there is traffic. You're asking this under the Princess thread so you would be going to the Los Angeles Port in San Pedro. Carnival is the only cruiseline out of Long Beach. Enjoy.

I think ship's transfers are the best way to go. They have great service and are the easiest, least stressful way to get to the port. A taxi would be pretty pricey.

A taxi cost me $70 (tip included) last month. The Princess bus was $40/pp.

Thank you it looks like the shuttle is the best cost efective and will take them back too. Just realized we booked our cruise today and so only 60 days !! We've never booked so late in the game and got great deals though. 8)

Great info. We just booked for Oct/Nov for the Mexican Riviera. We are getting there ourselves and were wondering about getting from LAX to the dock. We'll probably book a shuttle, I saw some on the internet.

This will be my DH first cruise so the less stressful it is for him the better.

We signed up for the Princess transfers and what a joy that was! From the time we landed there was a Princess representative near us. They were at the baggage claim and took our bags as soon as we got them off the carousel. We boarded buses that took us straight to the ship. We were able to board the ship earlier than the times listed for general embarkation. At the end of the cruise the buses were waiting and whisked us away to LAX and we were on are our way back home. We won't do it any other way from now on.

I agree with Chris & Craig about taking the Princess transfers. We just returned from a Princess cruise out of San Pedro and as was reported a Princess representative greeted us as soon as we walked toward the baggage pick-up area and stayed with us and guided us to our bus. After a long flight this service was a welcome sight.

The cost of the transfer to the ship was $24 pp one way. While you could probably find cheaper private transfer service, for me, the small savings is not worth trying to lug my luggage outside and then find their van.
