Default gathering as much info as I can

Hello all!!!! Very excited going on a 7 night southern carib cruise on the Emerald departing January 3rd!!!! We have 4 months to go but, I wish I can fast forward to the day, and then slow it down during the cruise =](if only dreams can come true =]~) I have never cruised with Princess before, so I wanted to know what should I expect? What is there to do on the Emerald? We booked a late dining option and a big table since there will be 6 of us all in our mid 20's. What is there for entertainment on the ship? What will be our options for the sea days (we will have two) and ofcourse the main question what to wear??????? On my previous cruise, we sailed with Norwegian where we were allowed to wear jeans to dinner, will that be fine on the Emerald for the casual nights?

Default I almost peed my pants laughing

Maybe you should have chosen Carnival?

No jeans allowed in the dinning room area. dress pants and dress shirts. You wear nice new clothes that are not casual. During formal night, you will have to wear a tux or a black suit with a tie.

no bathing suits allowed orr jeans anywhere after 6pm unless its the lido deck (pool) and not inside any eating areas including the promenades where entertainment or/and stores are located.

your charge card will be billed between $700 to $1800 for this cruise has things are more expensive than NCL.

Treat the cruise like your going to your wife boss house for a kakki pants staff get to gether and you'll do fine on any Princess Ship.

Get anything over 60spf for sunscreen for this cruise, the sun is extremely hot and the ocean is extremely salty, bring two cases of bottled water , ask to have fresh bowl of fruits delivered to your room daily (free).

bring lots of freezer bags and order room service before you get off the ship in teh morning at every port, order great sub sandwiches and put them in freezer bags to take with you when you get off teh ship. Keeps the cost down while touring islands and spending on the beach. I do this if the wife decides to hangout on the beach for the day in Antigua.

get a coffee card when you first board the ship. its better coffee than the ones they offer at the buffet.

Bring a powerbar since the wall outlet it somewhat of a joke. Your wife will love you for it.

enjoy your trip.

Crown Princess , the Grand Princess and New Ruby Princess are the ships to chose since their staff are unbelievably hard working and professional.

The ship to cruise starting December 2009 is the largest cruise ship ever built , the new Oasis of the Seas by RCL.

The cheapest Travel agencies in the world is

Smartcruiser.com

good luck and have lots of fun

oh one more thing,, your only allowed to smoke on one side of any Princess Ships and smoking in the Casino is only permitted every second day. tHANK gOD!

Bluejeans are certainly allowed in the main dining rooms on casual nights. This information is available online. It does indicate that frayed jeans or jeans with holes are not allowed. But go ahead and bring your jeans. On formal nights, you can also go casual in the two very good specialty upcharge restaurants. But neither tuxes nor suits and ties are required. You can wear a sports jacket, tie, and nice pants.

As for entertainment, the class of ship you are going on will have two major venues for live entertainment. The main shows are in the Princess Theatre and there will be a live band or comedian at Explorers night club (secondary large venue which is a lot of fun. Then there is a dance club on top of the ship Skywalkers. There is also Crooners martini bar, Wheelhouse bar, and Adagio, which is a great bar to hang out in near one of the specialty restaurants.

One of my favorite things about Princess is the different pool areas with great freshwater pools. One has the live band, one has the outdoor movie theater and there is another adults only pool.

In my humble opinion, you picked a great cruise and it's a step up from Carnival. It is less congested and a bit more elegant of a line than Carnival, especially these nice Grand Class ships. We booked our second for next year. Have a great cruise and don't forget to bring aboard your own libations. They allow you to bring on your own wine. If you want other stuff, just pack it in your luggage and it will find its way to your room.

I am a female, so all those power strips you speak of will be for me =]..question 700-1800 in charges??????!!!!???? How is that possible? Either you over order on your cruise, or are the drink prices extremely high on this particular cruise-line? Last cruise our bill came out to be $400 and it was so high due to the fact that I used the phone in the room. And yes jeans are allowed I checked princess website, thank you for the info.

Indeed - it is very possible, and very easy, to rack up all those extra on board charges. Bar, specialty coffee, specialty restaurants, ultimate balcony dinner, tips, shore excursions, casino, photos, gifts, auctions, spa, etc. etc. - these all can add a huge chunk to your vacation. And not just Princess - this is the case with any of the main stream lines. Obviously, it's also easy to avoid the extra charges by just not buying into the extra stuff. Therefore, it's really good to have a plan and budget in mind for on board expenses. You can check your balance any time while on board.

Hi.
I sailed on the Emerald Last April (So. Carip. Medley and had a great time. As someone already mentioned The Princess Theatre at the bow has Production and other Stage shows and Club Fusion at the other end of the ship has variety shows and things like Rock & Roll Dance party, Latin Salsa, Dance Fever, Country Hoetown themed parties.
Explorers Lounge, midships, also has variety entertainment and Audience Participation Games e.g. Peer Factor, Jeopardized Trivia, Princess Pop Star, etc. in addition to a live band. The wheelhouse Bar also has a live band/group for dancing and listening. The Adiago bar has a Piano-man. And there is usually something going on in the early evening and during the day on Sea Days in the Piazza (in addition to the Gelato, pastries, Tapas, Sushi, Wine and Specialty Coffee.
Skywalkers Nightclub aft at the top of the ship is the Disco venue but a good place to read a book during the day or hide out.
Don't miss out on the Island Night Deck Party on the pool deck or the Champagne Waterfall Party in the Atrium near the end of the cruise.

Don't worry about being charged $700 to $1800 on your account. That makes no sense unless you do a lot of ship sponsored excursions and hit the spa pretty hard. If there is just the two of you and it's a seven day cruise, the only automatics on your card will be the tips at around $140. If you are a big drinker, buy a lot of photos, do the spa thing, and lose a lot in the casino, your bill could add up.

The best tips I can give you are the following: bring on your own wine, you can pack other alcohol in your checked bags, bring on your own soda and pick up more at ports, instead of doing ship sponsored excursions, do your own independent and private excursions.

I would spend extra on both specialty restaurants (crown grill and sabatinis). That's two nights and two great dinners for $90 more per couple than eating in the MDR.

Have a great time.

Hello
I'm writing you as a fellow Princess 1st timer. And to the persona who posted 1st I take offense to your comment on how she should have choosen Carnival. I've sailed on several Carnival ships and they have been awesome.

I am a person who likes to do nicer things. And I love to plan a budget for my cruises. Here are a couple of things that you may find helpful.

Gratuities
On Carnival you can prepay your gratuities. The minimums and add more if you want. I asked if Princess offers this. They do not. But what a Princess rep told my TA was... I could purchase shipboard account certificates. These funds would be available in my account and the tips would be deducted daily.

Coffee card I was told it is $24 plus gratuity. It is a punch card and gives you 15 specialty coffees...lattes, cappuccino, mocha ect They said it is like paying for 12 and getting 15. Plus with that card you can just get a regular cup of coffee and there is no punch.

Soda card/stamp: I was told that the card is $4.95 a day plus gratuities. Good if you drink at least 2 sodas a day. for my friend I'm traveling with...yes. For me ...I drink more Ice Tea than soda. :-)

Both of those cards should be purchased after you board.

Casino Credit:
You can also budget your time in the Casino they sell Casino Credit certificates for $25, $50 and $100

Spa Credit:
Same as Casino Credit

Shore Tours:
They even have certificates that can be ordered and used to pay for your shore tours.

Hey I forgot when you are going... I'm making my first Princess cruise in March. The Golden Princess 14 days to Hawaii. I'm giving everyone my Princess Christmas Wish List...lol I usually don't ask for anything. And I'm happy with all. But this year... :-)

Have an awesome time!
