We just realized another port has been added to our itinerary for AOS in October. I was really looking forward to 2 days at sea. We are kind of tempted to skip port time. We cruised on Carnival's Paradise 2 years ago and the pools were closed when we were in port. Anyone know if this is also the case with RCCL ships and what on board activities are available while in port?
The pools ARE open on RCI ships while they are in port! Wow! Never dreamed a cruiseline would even consider closing pools while in port. That's the best time to enjoy the pool.....when it's not crowded. Onboard activities are usually few and far between while in port.
The pools are open while in port except for the port of departure. Why the pool was closed on the Paradise is unknown to me as they are also supposed to be open and always have been whenever I sailed on them, same for RCI

Pools are rarely open in the departure port due to the work load.
Every crew member is assigned a task that involves cleaning up, setting up or luggage movement.
It takes several crew members time to open the pool, stow the safety netting, fill the pool, place out towels, etc, etc, etc.
There is not a spare minute or spare hand on a ship on deparutre day.
