Hi Brandi,
Yes, you can use your origional birth cirtificate and a pic drivers license, but I'd highly recommend getting a passport. Makes traveling a lot more hassle free and you will be suprised in the course of your cruise and traveling how many times you will have to show your ID, there is no better ID than a passport.

Here is a link to infomation on obtaining one:

Donna,

Do you know how much it may cost using this site? The post office where I live told me that I could get one for $95. I'm looking for the best deal I can get.

Hi Brandi,
I know last year the cost of passports went up and I think you can get one
for around $80 now and they are good for 10 years. You'll need to get a
passport photo done, some places can take them right there when you apply
for them. Remember you'll need to take your birth cirtificate with you and
they take it to process the passport, but they will send it back with the
completed passport. They are only taking a few weeks, someone recently got
theirs in less than 2 weeks, so I don't know how much time you have, but its
worth doing IMHO. Here is a link to a better site, answers a lot of
questions, if you need any help, let me know and good luck.

Anyone know the exact cost of a passport now, since they went up in price recently??

As of yesterday (when we applied for one for my wife) it was $55 to U.S. Passport Services and $30 as an application fee.

Wow, I'm glad we got our new one last year. We paid $65 and thought it was outrageous. We got the first one in '84 before going to Spain and it was $30. Lord knows what it'll be next year!

Re: Re: Will I need a passport to Sail from San Juan?

$6.50 a year is about the cost of an umbrella drink or two at sailaway. Hardly an outrageous price.

Frankly, if you can't afford $10 a year or less for gilt-edged worldwide travel documentation, you simply can't afford to travel. Oh, and be aware, if you ever go to places like Russia, China, Japan and some other countries (including many African countries), you have to get a visa put in your passport before you leave the US, and there is an additional fee for this, payable to the country you are visiting.

There are incidental costs associated with travel. A passport is one of them. Travel a lot, use it often, and keep the price per trip low.

One upside to having a passport is if your work needs to send someone to a foregin country on short notice, your ready to go! I have seen it happen a couple of times that the person with the pasport in hand was the person selected.

Ok - now that I think about it, it could be a bad thing depending on where your going to get sent! But if its to someplace you want to go you are ready to volunteer.
