I have read on these boards that there is plenty of parking available at Cape Liberty Pier and that it will cost $12.00 a day. Sorry I don't knowany fo the hotels in that area. What date and on what ship are you cruising? I will be on Voyager of the seas on May 21 from Bayonne. LINDA
Cape Liberty is only one exit on the Turnpike away from Newark Airport. There are many hotels there. If you are driving to the pier it would take no more than 10 minutes. There are also 2 hotels on Staten Island which would be only a 20 minute drive from the pier. Both the Staten Island Hotel and the new Hilton Garden are close to the highway and a real quick trip from the pier.
That's expensive parking & out the way for us in LI NY---glad our Celeb cruise will leave from NYC although I have heard the pier there is a filthy place & not a great experience! I guess by the time we pay for the limo into NY it will be the same as the parking in Bayonne. Hopefully they will upgrade NYC pier --what a shame for such a destination city!
Believe me $12.00 per day is cheap. The NYC pier parking is more expensive plus the traffic and congestion is horrendous. Last Sept we took the NCL Dawn out of NYC. We were the first group off the ship and I called my limo service just as we were getting our luggage. He was parked 3 blocks away from the pier and it took him 2 1/2 hours to get to us. Its my understanding that a number of cruise lines are considering the move to Bayonne NJ. NYC piers are the pits.
To moai--Holtsville & You? To other posters, thanks for the tip about post cruise congestion- in NYC -maybe we should wheel our own stuff to the limo--that would be preferred over such a long wait--Probably though we would be in the last group to leave as we have no flight or excursions. I am stilll in shock that NYC is so shabby--but why did I expect otherwise!
Sue - Please double check with your travel agent. On the website Royal Caribbean says they will have ferry service from Manhattan to Bayonne but NOT for the 2004 season. If I were you I would check just to be safe. I found this info on the cruising power web site.
Does anyone know where you would get the ferry? I guess it is for the benefit of those that wish to extend their stay in NYC? I live in the Hudson Valley. I prefer flying out of Newark because there is less traffic, it will probably be the same for sailing out of Bayonne.
Sorry everyone, but I am sailing on 5/16/04 and I just came back from the NY Times travel show @ the Javits and I spoke to RCI about the ferry and it probably wont be up and running this season!!!!! BK
