Default Cococay Island

Does anyone know the status of RCI's private Cococay Island. We are going on a cruise in 20 days and I hope that we can stop at Cococay Beach as I have been told it is the highlight of the cruise. It is my understanding from a post on this board that the beach was washed away by Hurricane Frances and RCI is moving sand from another beach to rebuild it adn it should be done in two weeks. Any lastest updates would be appreciated.

Cant wait to cruise!!

Hi KY,
Although this latest press realease doesn't state as to when Coco Cay will be re-opened, just that this week they are not stopping there. I hope they can repair any damage so the ships can go there again, here is the lastest from RCCL:

Tropical Weather Update

September 21, 2004 - 3 p.m.

Royal Caribbean International continues to closely monitor the path and progress of Tropical Storm Jeanne to ensure our guests enjoy safe and comfortable cruises and to make certain our ships steer clear of the storm. We also continue to monitor our operations resulting from Hurricanes Ivan and Frances.

The safety and comfort of our guests are always the foremost concern of Royal Caribbean International.

Due to damage caused by Hurricane Frances, Royal Caribbean International is currently unable to bring its ships to Freeport, Bahamas; and Coco Cay, Bahamas, Royal Caribbean's private island. Additionally, due to damage caused by Hurricane Ivan, Royal Caribbean International is currently unable to bring its ships to Georgetown, Cayman Islands.

Given the location and projected path of Tropical Storm Jeanne, and the results of Hurricanes Ivan and Frances, we are currently altering the itineraries of several Royal Caribbean International ships.

We will update this information three times daily - at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Ships sailing from Port Canaveral

Sovereign of the Seas currently on its September 20 sailing, will not make its port call in Coco Cay, Bahamas, today. Instead, the ship will make a port call in Miami, Florida, today.

Ships sailing from the Port of Miami

Majesty of the Seas, currently on its September 20 sailing, will not make its port call in Coco Cay, Bahamas, on Wednesday. Instead, the ship will spend Wednesday at sea.

Navigator of the Seas, currently on its September 18 sailing, will not make its port call in Georgetown, Cayman Islands, on Wednesday. Instead, the ship will spend Wednesday at sea.

Ships sailing from Port Everglades

Enchantment of the Seas, currently on its September 18 sailing, will not make its port call in Georgetown, Cayman Islands, today. Instead, the ship will make a port call at Labadee, Hispaniola, today.

Ships sailing from Port of Galveston

Rhapsody of the Seas, currently on its September 19 sailing, will not make its port call in Georgetown, Cayman Islands, on Thursday. Instead, the ship will make a port call at Costa Maya, Mexico, that day.

At this time, no other Royal Caribbean International ships are being impacted by tropical weather. We will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and update this information at 7 p.m. today.

I will be on the MOS ship OCt 11-15 and I hope that Cococay Island is repaired as me and my boys have a kayak and snokeling excusion booked. I have read that it is the best part of our cruise as far as island to see. Any comments?? I sure wish a rep from RCI would post some public information regarding the island.

I'm not sure that it would help RCI to post information on Cococay until they are sure that that announcement would be about its reopening. They've been consistent about announcing its status just before each cruise for which it was a scheduled port-of-call.
