Default Higher tipping rates in Jr. Suite?

I had heard that the tipping guidelines for a Jr. Suite are higher than for an oceanside balcony. I thought that the room was just a bit bigger. If in fact we are expected to tip more, are there additional services that we will be getting? I guess I am a bit fuzzy on this one. I definitely intend on tipping, just want to understand the whole system as to not make a mistake!

Hey there! This is how I look at it. If everyone does their normal job, I tip according to everyone else on the boat. However, the first thing I do when I get on the boat is to head to the Porter's desk and remove all prepaid tips from our account. I give each individual a tip personally. If my room steward goes over and beyond, I give them much more than the average. If my waiter/waitress does not do a very good job...I don't mean being slow, but I have had one that when my husband has asked for something else, he got mad...I gave him a very small tip at the end and told him why. He was like that the entire time. I have given excellent waiters/waitresses more than the normal if they go out of their way. Tip accordingly and how you want to. Most of all, have fun!

To:Gippy P

I have 2 jr. suites. I am only going to tip what I feel is right to who ever.
Standard 15% should apply, more or less according to service.
This almost reminds me of those annoying tip cups on every counter!
A higher tip is now exspected upfront, instead of earned?
So check into the automatic tipping from your account !
I don't think they can do that without your promision, so please check.
I am........

RCI website indicates that gratuities for suite guests are $5.75 per person per day, while gratuities for stateroom guests is $3.50 per person per day.

Am I to think that I need to tip the room attendant for a party of 6 (2 adults, 4 kids)
on a 4 night cruise (balcony jr. suite) $138.00 for his service?
Then also tip out the Matirde, WaitStaff, everyone else as well?

Though they call them Jr suites, these aren't really suites, just a cabin category designation.

The tipping in a junior suite is the regular amount of $3.50 per day. Its not really a suite, just a bigger cabin.

We were in a Jr. suite on the Mariner in November and had our gratuities put on our account. They charged us $5.75 per person, definitely more than when we were in a D1 category on the Navigator the year before.

I was in a junior suite on the Adventure in July and I based my tipping on the usual amount of $3.50 a day not the higher amount of $5.75. HOWEVER, I did tip just a bit above it, but I used the regular amount as the base rate.

My point was, if you have your gratuities charged to your Seapass account, they will put a $5.75 per person per day charge for tips on your bill, if you stay in a Jr. suite. If you tip by cash, you obviously can give what you want.

I'm booked in a junior suite on the Monarch of the Seas upcoming in Feb. We have already prepaid our tips and we were only charged $3.50 for the cabin steward.

Momx4,

Yes, the guidelines state that the gratuity per guest rate applies to infants and children too.

From the RCI website:

What are gratuity guidelines for cruises?

Suite attendant: $5.75 USD a day per guest
Stateroom attendant: $3.50 USD a day per guest
Dining Room Waiter: $3.50 USD a day per guest
Assistant Waiter: $2.00 USD a day per guest
Headwaiter: $.75 USD a day per guest

*Note: These gratuities also apply to infants and children of all ages.
Gratuities for other service personnel are at your discretion. A 15% gratuity will automatically be added to your bar bill or wine check when you are served.

Asst Waiter: $48 (2.00 per person, per day x 4 days)

Gratuities for the Grand Suites are figured at the higher rate.

Do you have to give the higher rate for a grand suite..or can you give the $3.50 instead....and are tips automatically put on your sea pass card if you are in a grand or can you choose to leave cash in envelopes.

Sis.....

I don't want to get into a debate so I will only say.....you don't HAVE to do anything (its not a law)....but the RIGHT thing to do is to tip whatever RCCL suggests. If you are in the Grand Suite, you should tip according to what RCCL's guidelines says. If RCCL says $5.75 then thats the minimum that you should base your tipping on. If they say $3.50 then base it on that. I mean...if you are staying in a grand suite and RCCL says the recommended amount is $5.75, then suck it up and pay it.

Staying in a grand suite doesn't really give you any perks that I know of. Just a larger room...Conceirge really isn't much of anything. Not like you are getting a butler.

Sis -

Staying in a Suite gives you more space. With a GRAND SUITES you're getting a much bigger room than a JUNIOR SUITE (almost 100 sq. ft. bigger). If you have 4 people in a Grand Suite (or an inside cabin) then the cabin steward has to clean and prepare for 4 individuals to utilize the room (i.e. bath towels, turning down the bed, etc.) . I know it might not seem like a lot to you - but you can clean a smaller cabin, with a much smaller bathroom a lot faster than a suite with a full size bath/tub.

When we had 2 adults and 2 teenagers in our Grand Suite, our kids' items were all over the place! My niece had enough clothes to last a month or more - and we were only on a 7 night cruise!!! God bless our cabin steward!!! With more of us in the room - and teenagers who liked to shower three time a day - believe me when I say that he earned his $5.75 per day/per person. We actually gave him more because he was so nice to all of us.

Bottom line - follow the guidelines as a "base rate" and ADD or SUBTRACT according to the service you received.

Thanks Sharon. Let me ask you this, if you have a grand suite.....do they automaticaly put the tip on your sea pass card or can you put the money in an envelope and give accordingly to how you feel you were treated.

They cannot charge your Sea Pass without your permission. I always pay in cash at the end of the cruise with the envelopes that they provide.

I am assuming that the Royal Family Suite is considered part of the "Suite" family in terms of tipping.
