Default Booking another cruise??

Can anyone tell me the advantages of booking your next cruise at the end of the one you are on? I would love to go on a 3rd one and thought that maybe there would be a anvantage to doing it early.
What are your thoughts?

Yes, there are advantages. First, your deposit is usually much smaller than if you booked "normally" through your travel agent. If you book onboard, you can always transfer the booking to your TA.

Second, you typically get some amount of shipboard credit if you book onboard.

Third, your cabin selection will probably be better. If it's a very popular type of cruise, like a repositioning, the sooner you book, the better from the standpoint of cabin selection.

In my opinion there isn't much advantage. They give you a $100 cruise credit (on your next cruise) for any room excluding suites, and if you are booking a suite you get a $200 credit.

I didn't think it was worth it because we really weren't totally sure exactly when and where we wanted to go, and what kind of room we wanted, etc.

But if you know exactly what you want, you might as well take advantage of it.

You do NOT have to be sure of when/where/what you want to cruise. We booked one ship and then changed the ship and day we are sailing. As long as you keep the same booking number you can change these. Many people book anything just so that they have the cabin credit when they decide what they finally want to book.

The last time I was onboard and wanted to book my next cruise, I was told that RCL's frowns upon you changing the cruise to something else and that they were going to stop transferring the onboard credits. I do not know if they followed through with it.
