We liked the Mariner better than the Explorer. Both times we were in balcony cabins and the Mariner has plexiglass on the balcony where the Explorer was steel. It was hard to sit in a chair and see without straining to look over the barrier. Other preferences had more to do with itinerary and sailing companions than the ships.

It would be difficult to really "sunbathe" on the balcony. You would need to move the 2 chairs and the table - not a problem since they are light but then you would need to put something down on the rough floor. Lastly, the balcony is fairly well shaded except for certain times of the day. I have sat on the balcony on a chair with my feet up basking in partial sun but I don't think that is what you mean.

Mariner of the seas is a very nice ship. I went on this ship for my honeynoon in 2005 and had a blast. This was the first crusie my wife and I had ever been on. I was a little apprehensive but once we were at sea there was so much to do I forgot I was on a ship.
As for sunbathing on the balcony there is not enough room.

Very Very similar. The layout, food and activities were almost exactly the same. The balcony is better on the Mariner and I think the cruise director was too. We also loved going out of Port Canaveral. Everything about getting to/from Orlando and getting on/off the ship was very smooth. New Jersey was another story altogether.

The comedian- Troy (again, on Mariner) was excellent. We also loved going out of Port Canaveral. Everything about getting to/from Orlando and getting on/off the ship was very smooth. we sailed out of nj twice and twice out of new york, and really didn't have a problem. also we sailed three times out of fort lauderdale wh ich was a breeze. the one time out of new york we got onto the ship later than usual because there was a wedding on board. We loved the explorer and i'm happy that the mariner is similiar. never sailed in april either so that willbe different also. on 7 days are there still two formal nights? And did you notice if there were alot of men wearing tuxes? thanks quincy
