Default Liberty of the Seas - Puerto Rico Port & Time?

Sailing on Liberty of the Seas in March 2008 and was reviewing the schedule, which appears that we arrive in Puerto Rico at 3PM and depart at 10PM. Has anyone ever sailed on this cruise and can tell me (2) things:

1. Where does she dock in San Juan? There are two basic ports, one is down town old San Juan, which allows for you to walk out and be in the center of town with casinos, shops, etc. Or does she port across the harbor in a more industrial area that requires a cab to get to/from the ship?

2. What have folks generally done for shore excursions at 3PM in the afternoon, seems like a waste of a day since sunlight will be lost only a few hours after we dock?

Thanks!

Hi,

We were on Freedom in December and like you docked at San Juan at 3pm. When we were booking shore excursions in the UK the RCI site didn't bring up any excursions for this port but when we got on board and looked at the excursion guide there were several to choose from.

We went to Fort San Cristobal (still light) then on to the Bacardi Distillery (dark when we left)

As to where the ship docked I don't know the name of the pier however we were in a residential area with lots of shops etc.

Hope this helps

Andrio

Default San Juan

Back in August we docked in old San Juan. Walking distance to many attractions.

Do not do the old and new San Juan tour....

We docked in Old San Juan (12/25/08 ). Since it was 1530 before passengers were allowed to disembark, we just stayed on the ship. We have "done" San Juan before and since we had the early sitting there was not much that we could do.

I do agree that 1500 is a waste of of a port day.

Mike why do you suggest not to do the old & new San Juan tour?

What no one has said is that the ship stays on "Ships Time" and it is really 4:00 Local time.

Thanks for the feedback. The positive thing to hear is that we dock in old san juan, which will at least give us a chance to walk around down town for an hour before returning to the ship. I've stayed in san juan for vacation and on a number of cruises, there's not much left for me to do other than just walk around and stretch the legs.

Thanks!

Default San Juan

Manuel:
We packed into a small bus drove through a residential area and viewed older homes from outside a wire fence. 20 minute ride.

Then took 45 minutes to get back to old San Juan in stop and go traffic on the freeway.

Stopped for an hour at the fort, which was interesting but once you have seen an old fort.....

When someone on the bus asked why we were not going into Old San Juan we were told the bus was to big to drive the narrow streets.

I think you can see the fort and walk around Old San Juan on your own.

Hope this helps.

Ships time is the same as the time in San Juan. We set our clocks AHEAD 1 hour on the second day out of NJ.

depends on the time of the year San Juan stays on AST (GMT -4)Year round (No Daylight savings)The LOS is on FL time EST(GMT-5) in the winter, this is 1 Hr different then SJU. In the summer DST & AST are the same(GMT-4). I hope this in not too confusing. FYI the clocks change March 9 and Ends November 2 in 2008. http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/

Doesn't make an sense. Eastern FL is in the same time zone as NJ. We adjusted our time by one hour (12/24/07). Why wouldn't the LOS do the same thing?

I was just on LOS (12/8/07) - we did not change time on the ship - Ships time was 1 Hr. earlier then Local time I don't know why . I am not making this up. The LOS has to run at full speed 23+knots to make SJU i I sea day maybe thats the answer.
