Help/advice with proposal on cruise!

I am going to propose to my girlfriend when we go on our cruise to the Western Caribbean aboard The Enchantment of the Seas. The cruise leaves on the 15th of September, 2008 and is a five nighter. I know that my girlfriend wouldn't want it to be a public display, so I've thought up of an idea for a very romantic and intimate setting. I am also open to suggestions. For this to work smoothly, i would need assistance from a trust worthy passenger on the same cruise as us. On either the first or second night, after dinner, we would go back to our room, and on the bed would be a single rose, with a piece of paper wrapped around it. I would make it seem like it was a note from Royal Caribbean, that would instruct us to walk around the ship, and collect 9 more of these roses. Written on each paper would be a Bible verse about love. We both believe that God is the center of our relationship, and that He is responsible for bringing us together, so the Bible verses seem appropriate. She would collect 8 with the verses, and then the last one, which would be in the spot where I would pop the question would be maybe somewhere on the front of the ship or right below the bridge on the observation deck - somewhere romantic and intimate. The last paper would have a message from me. I think it would just be even more amazing if someone could discretely follow us around with either a video camera or digital camera. They could be acting like they are filming the ship. There is also a cash incentive involved it someone would like to help. I don't want to say my girlfriend is gullible, but she wouldn't really pick up on people following us - I think I totally made her just sound like a dumb, unobservant girl, but she really isn't. She would be happy for the people enjoying themselves "filming" the ship. I am opening to feedback and other suggestions! Happy Cruising!

First of all, congrats on such a wonderful thing you are doing !!

I (Phil) proposed to my wife aboard ship. I did it on stage during a dance at the Captains cocktail party.

I had approached the CD (Chris Roberts) about arranging something and he suggested the Captains party idea.

He made a comment while introducing the next song to be played by the band and that was my que.

I handed him my camera and he handed me the microphone.

Your idea is a fantastic one and I really hope it goes as you wish.

Do try to approach the CD about the filming idea...they may offer the services of the media crew.

Your plan sounds very nice. Why not try and contact RCCL in Miami and tell them your plan; ask them if they could help. Second choice would be to check at the pursers desk when you board and ask them how you could pull off the plan. Third choice would be, go to the meet on board forum on this website and see who will be sailing on your ship and ask to meet with someone on day one and see if they will help you. Most members who belong to these forums like to have a meet and mingle on the ship. they also like to help out especially with nice gestures such as yours. Good luck.

Who is going to plant the roses and keep them from being swiped by another guest?

What might be interesting is if you had 9 additional people in on it and for some reason hand her a rose

keep tossing ideas until you get it down

nstokes7989: You raise a really good point. And yes, I've thought about that. I wasn't sure how I was going to plant the roses so that other guests or crew members didn't remove the roses. Your idea of getting 9 people involved is a great one.

We could be simply walking around on the upper deck and then one by one (obviously not RIGHT after each other, but also not 5 minutes in between) people would walk up to us and hand her a rose. I would take her to the spot and have the last one in my breast pocket if I was wearing a sport coat.

u have a great idea. I'd also ask crew member for some ideas because I'm sure there have been many many proposals onboard, both intamite and public. congratulations

First of all congrats! Depending on what night you plan on doing it, perhaps you could enlist the assistance of your table mates from dinner? Perhaps they would be willing to go up on deck after dinner and mill around and hand the roses to her. Just a thought since normally you get to know your table mates a little bit.
