Just returned from Adventure. Having been on Mariner 2 times, thought the ship would be exactly the same, but it was not. First of all there is
no Jade or Chops. Only Portofino, which was excellent as usual.
Otherwise the configuration of the ship seemed the same.
We had the usual excellent RCI service, especially in the dining room
with Simadha as our waiter and Gil as asst. The menu has changed somewhat and I'm wondering if that is on all RCI ships? Some new dishes and for the most part were good if not very good.
Cruise Director was Mike (last name long ending w/"ski") He was very good with a good sense of humor. Did an original Quest.and at least 2 skits that were fun during the shows. Most CD's don't bother with this anymore. but it was definitely different from the norm. You could tell
that he put some extra work in the entertainment.
Dede in concierge lounge was fun..an original personality and made
everyone feel at home. Making reservations for us if needed, giving
us tips via phone everyday to make our days hassle free and enjoyable.
Shore excursions we chose were great. First Aruba...Mi Dushi..a schooner that stopped at 3 different places for snorkelling. The last one we stayed awhile. They served lunch...a full meal of local cuisine. The brave ones did the rope swing off the boat and had a ball..young and old alike.
Curacao - Culinary Delights of Curacao. Well worth the money if you are a foodie at all. Set in a delightful restored home within walking distance of the port. All 25 of us formed teams and made a scrumptious lunch with many courses...all local dishes of course. Led by excellent cook who
also told of history of Curacao, etc. a very interesting person. It was fun to get to know her and her staff plus the other cruisers.
St. Martin - just a pleasant day at Orient Beach...good lunch at local
St. Thomas - More snorkelling..this time at Turble Cove on Doubloon. As promised we saw several sea turtles, plus sting ray, barracuda and fish. Lovely coral formations. Got caught in a rain storm on the way back so we were drenched...but guess we were wet anyway.
Noticed that the drink prices seemed alittle higher for some. Wine
seemed to be the same price.
We had 2 lovely days prior at El Convento and enjoyed the sights, people,
and activity in Old San Juan.
Definitely a cruise we all enjoyed.
