Default C&A Welcome Back Party?

Has Royal Caribbean stopped the return guest party on all cruises? Or have they just stopped the free beverages at this party?

I was on the Crown and Anchor benefits page and all I saw was this:

Recognition at Captains Cocktail/Welcome Party**
** Beverages available for purchase

Thanks in advance for your help!

Just off the Brilliance and they still had the party. There were still free drinks but doesn't mean they aren't phasing this out.

In reality, it's not like the C&A parties were an open bar. The "Free" drinks were limited to the 2 or 3 already made cocktails the waiters walked around with. You never could just go to the bar and order what you wanted. I know it was a rum punch, white sparkling wine, and one other drink was all you could get for free. It's my understanding that now you will just have to purchase whatever drink you want, which was what it was except for those few cocktails the waiters walked around with.

Alright, I hope I do not sounds childish, but lets think about this. The past guest party is about two things. #1 Thanking those that are repeat customers and #2 Keeping those people sold on your cruiseline and the new ideas/ships that are coming out.

If you take away the free alcohol (which was cheap drinks lets be honest) less people are going to show-up, and the perception is that you are being cheap. Think about weddings you have been too. If they have a cash bar people will talk for days (some people even years) about how cheap they were being. If other cruiselines follow RC it might not be as big of an issue, but people always remember who started it.

I have to say Carnival has RC beat on the repeat customer party. They let me order whatever drink I want, and RC has not. In all honesty we are talking about 2 (maybe 3 ) drinks. It is not going to make or break my cruise, but it seems cheap.

Except I don't cruise for the free drinks at the past guest party. I don't even drink the free drinks when they had them. I enjoy the party, but I get another drink.

I may be in the minority, but I never have been a fan of these parties anyway....I also think if they charge for drinks, the Captain, and crew could be toasting themselves. You say free booze, and, they will come, none, and it's outta there....

I have never had a problem getting my drink of choice at the welcome back party. We haven't been attending them much lately anyway but I must admit, we won't attend them at all anymore. Of course we have to be cruising with RCL to make this a reality and that may not happen too much any more.

ITA - it will be pretty funny, too. I believe the change to a cash bar will take place on 7/1/09 along with the other changes. Not sure about the "mass" C&A party, but at the Platinum/Diamond one you were able to get whatever drink you wanted - not quite sure how that will be changing.

I didn't bother to go last year because it was the only time on the enitre voyage I saw that many people crammed into a given area. I shan't go this year either whether or not the drinks are free for the same reason.
