Default New here -- question about RC Monarch of the Seas

Hello all.

I'm new here. Please be gentle with me. :-)

I've cruised twice before several years ago, and I finally decided it's been long enough and I need to get back out there. A few days ago I booked myself on the Monarch of the Seas sailing 31Jul. I'll be travelling alone, which is a first for me on a cruise.

Do any of you know which night on the 3-day itinerary is formal night? I'm trying to plan my time in Nassau and which clothes I'll be packing.

Thanks!

Jax,

I am also sailing on Jul 31st. You will love Monarch. She is the sister ship to Soverign. I absolutely adored her. If you need to know anything just reply here.

Happy sailing,

Diane

Your formal evening should be the second night.

Thanks to you both.

I've been on the Majesty before (2003), but I never was on the Sovereign. I'm really looking forward to this cruise. I need to get away. :-)

I am also going on this cruise on Aug 7th. I also heard that it is the second night, when docked at Nassau. I have been on the Sovereign as well.

More questions ...

I've heard that there's now a charge to get a cash advance from the casino. True? Is there a way to get cash while on the ship without being charged a fee or should I hit the ATM on the way to the pier?

I've been to Nassau twice but never explored the city. I'm considering walking to the straw market and then a little further into town, heading back around 7pm. Is walking alone (single female, remember) safe around 7p-8p?

Are there safes in the room?

Thanks everybody. I am SO excited about this cruise!

I don't know anything about ATMS or charges but I know you can cash a personal check for I think up to $200 at the purser's desk.

Thanks, shahram72. I wouldn't have even thought to take my checkbook since I use it so rarely now. I'll add it to my list. :-)

!
We paid a fee from the casino in Feb. on the Majest OTS. Learned our lesson and brought cash for the May trip on the Monarch!

I absolutely adored the Monarch. The crew was fantastic, the food was very good and always served at the appropriate temperature, and the ship was immaculate to be an older, smaller vessel. I loved getting into Nassau a little later, too. You just can't beat arriving in port at noon. You have time to enjoy your breakfast, plan your day, and watch the ship back into the pier. It was fantastic!

Thank you soooo much for those words about the Monarch. I am a teacher in Florida and the only way that I can cruise is if I save up my money for quite a while and, then, it cannot be a Celebrity or a Regent.

I sailed on the Sovereign of the Seas in October, 2006 and fell in love with her. Then I sailed the Mariner for my 25th anniversary and now, two years later can sail again on this short cruise compliments of teaching summer school for six weeks.

I hear so much that RCCL is becoming a "bargain basement" cruiseline -
I do not want to believe that. My next cruise - Alaska - 2013! I retire that year from teaching. Cruises too few and far between...

Oh, how I miss that ship here on the West Coast!

The ATM onboard has a $6.00 fee, and taking cash from the casino will cost you 3%, so it's best to have the cash you need with you (or win at the casino).

I wouldn't walk too far after dark, but it should still be plenty light with people around by 7:00 pm. I was solo in June and felt safe during the day, but I was back onboard early.

There are safes in the cabins on Decks 9 and 10 only. You can rent a safe deposit box at the purser's desk, or you can put your valuables in your suitcase and put it under your bed. I did that without any worries.

Have a great cruise!

On the ship we were on The Monarch of the Sea, there was a fee if you used your sea pass for a cash advance. I'm don't remember how much it was. We just had the Customer Relations people cash our travelers checks for us. We did not use the ATM.
