Default Labadee Amusement Ride

Does this type of entertainment interest you, on a private island port of call?

Yes I can't wait to ride the coaster in Labadee. It is located next to the Zipline. I saw it in July however it was not open yet.

I wonder if you can buy the Coaster and the Zipline together.

I don't think I'd try it, especially at $35.00 per person for a 3-5 minute ride?? Seems a bit steep to me?

We loved our cruise on Liberty and have been off the ship for just a week, but Labadee was horrid.

I mean between the bar people hawking "Labadoozie, Labadoozie" to everyone, and the flea market (DON'T do it) I felt Labadee was overly commercialized.

I was looking so forward to it, but I don't know if I'd get off the ship at Labadee again.

I don't think that's the point, it's the fact that RCCL needs to become more involved in some of these ports. Many people never leave the ship because of being so hassled and every little thing costing tons of money. I think that's a shame.

I never have a problem being hassled in Labadee. But then again I go for the beach and not the vendors selling stuff so I don't go by the vendor area. They do sell Labadoozies however bartenders just walk around shouting "Labadoozies" if you want one flag the bartender down if not no problem.

Ok this coaster does not seem too thrilling. But I'll try it anyway because I just love coasters. Six Flaggs has the best coasters!

The Labadoozie people don't bother me, but the flea market is ridiculous. They would sale so much more if they told the vendors to back off and let people look around. My son needed sunglasses in March and so I ventured to the flea market, I was almost attacked. We grabbed sunglasses quick and got the hell out of there. To bad because it looked like they probably had some neat stuff but they are so pushy and at one point one guy grabbed my arm to try and get me to his area, I jerked my arm away and left. At Cococay they are so much more laid back and let you walk around and look, they probably sale more there too.

Donna, it appears that price is good for a second person also, if you have one to take with you:

Attraction Details:

• Guest price is $35.00 per person
• Minimum age to be single rider is 12 years old
• Children 5 – 11 may ride with adult in same cart
• 2-person carts with combined capacity of 360 pounds
• Total ride time is approximately 3 – 5 minutes
• Total experience is approximately 25 minutes
• Purchase a ticket and you can take a person in your same cart for free

Unfortunately for me Mrs Roberts is a chicken when it comes to coasters, whereas my attitude is, the more warnings on the caution sign before boarding means it is a better ride.

$35. for two that makes it alittle better.

What excursion these days is not overpriced?

My favorite one I saw was $199. to swim with the dolphins. So a family of say 5 would pay $1,000.

I liked it for the nice quiet beach day. Now they're putting zip lines and coasters. Will they just keep going untill it's just an amusement park? I can do that at Canobie Lake, I don't need to go to the caribbean to ride a coaster. jmho. 8)

Call me wacky, but they are doing to their islands, what that have done to their ships...this is a pure revenue stream, a cash cow....especially when a family has kids who are unrelentining, wanting to go on these rides, which should have been left stateside, and not on a tropical beach.
Literally any port in a storm oK I vented!

I loved Labadee! I did the zip line early and then had a beautiful beach day after that. The beach that the zip line goes over is too rocky the other side is much nicer,I think it was called barefoot beach where I spent the day.

The water was great and I didn't find the drink pushers any more annoying then the ones on the pool deck. I was almost the last one back on the ship, another few hours would have been nice.

I heard they were very pushy at the market so I didn't bother with that.

The bbq was nice, pretty good ribs. just a really nice day!

There was no coaster when I went in April. If there was, DW would have insisted we go on it

I think it's ok for the cruise line to offer "choices" for it's guests when they are onboard and on the islands. If you choose to pay the fee to use this ride then at least you have the "option" to do. My concern is when they start to charge you for things that used to be free; which we haven't really seen a lot of just yet.

It isn't something that would sway me one way or the other to book a Royal Caribbean cruise. At $17.50/$35 for a ride it actually discourages me to do the ride. I probably wouldn't enjoy it too much since I enjoy a "good" coaster ride.

The Jamaican Bobsled run in Ocho Rios was touted as an "Extreme" ride but turned out to be less "Extreme" than most carnival rides. I got off thinking: "Is that it????"

I can see it now: "Six Flags over Haiti".

Take care,
Mike

I would take it a step further and put in a Jersey shore style pier in like they have in Wildwood or something like that. How cool would that be?!

I have heard they are putting a pier in at Labadee so the ships could be docked rather then tendered, is this true?

There were many, many kids on my last cruise who I think would enjoy this type of activity rather than laying out on the beach which is more of a grown up thing. However I agree 17.50 per ride is a bit exorbitant for what is essentially a carnival type ride.

Although I choose to book it, the zip line at Labadee was also way overpriced. I suppose it comes down to supply and demand and If they have the demand then their in command.

I have found some of the excursions that I have booked to be a good value in my opinion such as hoarse back riding in Samana and underwater scooters in St. Thomas.

When we went to Great Adventure the line for Kinda Ka was 2 hours and that was with the fast pass. :o Never got to ride it yet.

GA is not a cheap day at the park after tickets and fast pass.

Now if Labadee had a pier like in Wildwood that would be awesome. I love Wildwood.

We are not sit on the beach people. We do for alittle while then we want some adventure like coasters and zips....

I've heard there are plans for putting in a pier at Labadee, wouldn't that be nice.

The cruise line is building a new pier at Labadee to accomodate Oasis. They started building the pier in the winter of 2008 and plan to complete by March/April 2010 - hence the timeline when Oasis starts to visit Labadee. When I was in Labadee in Feb you could see the pilings that were being drilled and beginning to take shape.

They were having problems with it all day when I was there. I finally got to go on it once and then they closed it down again right after I got off. I hope you get to go on next time. It was travel channel's #1 most extreme coaster.

Yes Wildwood is a great place to spend a few days. It's been a few years since I've been there, may go next summer.

Dave there is always rides that are not open for some reason in GA.
My favorite coaster there is Nitro.

Hey Royal keep building rides in Labadee!
One coaster and a zipline is not good enough.

Nitro is my favorite too!! I was almost going to add that to my above post. It,s a nice long ride and when you hit the apexes you feel like your floating. I toss off the flip- flops and go bare foot.
