Default Big screen on pool deck.

On my last cruise on the Explorer of the Seas, a Carnival ship was docked next to us. I couldn't help noticing they had a huge cinema screen on the pool deck. Does any of Royal's fleet have this? If not they should start playing catch up.

Maybe one day they shall add the movie screen.

We watch movies at home and the theaters so would not be interested in watching movies while on vacation.

However if there are enough cruisers that enjoy this option then they should think about adding it.

Heck if they can put a zipline on a ship then a movie screen should be a piece of cake.

I just think it would be pretty cool to watch a movie while in the pool or hot tub!

I guess your right but I'd still like to see some big screens by the pool. Overall Royal has a much better ship so I guess "catch up" might have been a little to harsh.

I don't really know how they could retrofit the current RCI ships to fit a big screen on their pool decks. With the Viking Crown and where it is situated on most of the ships, I don't think they could put a big movie screen on many of their ships without blocking the Viking Crown. Of course if you put it at the other end of the pool deck, most of the chairs would be facing the wrong way.

My guess would be when RCI gets back to building ships back UNDER 200,000 GRT, they might add the big movie screen to future ship designs.

Maybe they could put several screens from the railings of the above deck. I know they would have to be much smaller.

With so many things to do on a ship, I prefer to watch movies at home.
I have sailed on the Carnival Liberty, and never paid much attention to what was going on the giant screen.

I know I could watch movies at home but I just think It would be cool to watch movies/cruise highlights from the pool deck.

I could eat dinner at home but would rather do it on a cruise ship

Ditto...I would not pay attention to a screen either.

I wonder if they play movies that are out on DVD or new releases in the theaters?

I see the good movies as soon as they are released to DVD and real good movies I see in the theaters. Movies that a cruiseline would show on a screen I would have seen already.

Talking about movies saw the new Bruce Willis flick in the theater it was very good. Willis is a great actor.

It sounds like it would be cool..but I've never gone to a movie
on a cruise..too much else to do that we can't do at home.

I think RC holds up quite well against other lines...what with
ice skating rink, rock climbing wall, and of course, Flowrider.
And now the Oasis...Can anyone match what the last ships
have in amenities?

If I am not mistaken I believe that there will be two big screens on the Oasis and Allure. I believe there is one on each side of the aquatheater.

I bet the sporting events are popular to watch on the ship big screen.

One thing I have to say for Royal Caribbean is that they always have at least one pool and hot tub open all night.

If my memory serves, on the Carnival Victory the main pool closed at 8pm and the aft pool with the retractable roof closed at 11pm.

I love to take a late night dip in the pool/tub and I thought this was a great policy for Royal Caribbean to have and a selling point to me more so than the jumbo screen. Both would be nice!

I do see your point...sporting events (think of Super Bowl Sunday)
and concerts would be great on big screen.

I'm jumping ship for the first time from Carnival to Royal mainly because the timing of Enchantment coincides with when DH and me decided to take a last minute vacation to Florida. I will miss the movie screen for late nites when you just want to be outside when no one's around (especially when I watched a Cher concert in 2008) but I hope I'm correct in hearing that Royal has chlorine pools! Time will tell 28 days and counting now. This is truly a respite for me and DH. The only thing I'm not happy about with RC is all the personal race and profession questions they ask when filling out your online check-in. I thought they weren't allowed to ask questions like that anymore and they don't give you the option to put "other" if you don't want to answer.
