Please help with dress code

Okay I tried to find this information on Royal's site the information in quotes is all I could find. I'm a Carnival Cruiser and Jeans are allowed on Casual nights on Carnival is it the same on Royal? Plus they don't have smart Casual. What the heck is smart Causal and how is it different from Formal/casual. Thanks for the help. Hopefully I don't have to buy any new clothes. My hubby might need to.

There are three distinct types of evenings onboard: casual, smart casual and formal. Suggested guidelines for these nights are: Casual: Sport shirts and slacks for men, sundresses or pants for women Smart Casual: Jackets and ties for men, dresses or pantsuits for women Formal: Suits and ties or tuxedos for men, cocktail dresses for women

I'd define it is a business casual. Something you would wear to the office.

I find jeans are only ever worn on the first night, while many are still in the travel clothes and waiting for luggage to be delivered.

Going by the descriptions of the dress codes given, apart from the jeans issue the descriptions seem clear enough. I think with jeans, if in doubt leave 'em out.

In my office Casual Friday we are allow to wear nice jeans. So this is why I'm confused. About 7 years ago they were really clear on what was prohibited. Since Royal isn't clear on prohibited items it's confusing.

For me, country club dress, is perfect for all other nights, other than formal..These adjectives can drive one crazy, but, office attire to me, is off the mark...

Yes, but business casual and casual fridays are two different things.

I thought to describe as something one would wear to church - but that means different things to different people.


Yes, there will likely be people wearing jeans in the MDR (there always are). If they are darker in colour, and you dress them up a bit, and you absolutely must wear jeans then go for it. i don't think anyone will ban you from the MDR. However, if you want to go with the flow and blend in, then I'd go with the following as suggestions for the MDR for non-formal nights:
-pants (non-jean) or skirt with dressy top (not something you'd wear to the beach!).
-sun-dress
-casual dress

I have a studded/beaded t-shirt that I have worn to the MDR but other than that, I would not recommend tees for the MDR either.

If you want to fit in (and I suspect that you do) .... I'd wear jeans on the first night and skip them for the rest of the nights.
