Grandeur Guests Bumped From July 12 Cruise
Apparently the Grandeur is returning to service still needing work completed. Guests in 70 cabins were bumped from the cruise so that workers can be housed in them, and continue to finish repairs necessitated by the May 27 fire. Just speculating, but I figure these are the cheapest inside cabins for the most part.
The guests were given a full refund and a 25% future cruise credit according to reports.
Has anyone heard of Grandeur passengers receiving their 25% voucher for a future cruise. I was booked on the June 28th sailing which was cancelled due to the fire. I received my full refund several weeks ago, but have not received the voucher.
I am sure that if you wanted to book a cruise today that a travel agent would be able to get that credit for you - voucher in hand or not.
Also - check your email, it may have come electronically. You can also go the RCL web site and see if there are any FAQs on the topic, or if you can "chat" with an agent.
Talk to your agent and they'll get this taken care of for you. If you didn't book with an agent, you're going to have to contact RCCL yourself. This is one main reason why we always suggest using an agent - you can let them handle the problems and you don't have to worry about it.
Now, with that said, either way, it won't be a problem - the 25% discount will be in your file under your Crown & Anchor number or your reservation number and your agent can get it applied without any problems.
We just got off the Grandeur this morning after doing a short trip for travel agents so we could see all the new features after it's $63million renovation and it has really changed alot! This was actually our 4th time on the Grandeur - our other three times were 9-nights, 10-nights, and 7-nights, so we know that ship very well. Plus, we've been on a total of over 50 nights on the Vision-class ships.
While we really love the new changes on this ship, I have to be honest and say the food was what we remember - just okay, but nothing to write home about. Plus, the beds were terrible and the pillows are basically non-existent! I don't think they are more than 2" thick! Even after requesting additional pillows, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that if we ever do it again, we'll take our own memory foam pillows, that's for sure!
But we were told that there are 75 cabins being utilized by workers and probably won't be just the July 12th sailing that will be affected. They're holding off on the next couple of sailings until they see how things are progressing.
One thing we learned is that for the most part all the damage from the fire has been fixed. In fact, from a normal passenger standpoint, you would never know there was any fire - you cannot see or smell anything to indicate there was a fire onboard that ship.
Also, it's not just the fire damage that has workers still onboard. They are still working on some of the areas as a part of the complete renovation that are not yet finished, such as the Diamond Club.
It'll be interesting to see how all this plays out because the Carnival Pride is now scheduled to leave Baltimore on November 30, 2014 and not return, leaving the port with only the Grandeur.
