We are going to the Southern Carb ports and my wife is a world class shopper. I ahve read that the "deals" of years past are not there but she will have to look for herself, soooooooooo Any suggestions for looking for spices or jewlery ?
I have found that the "deals" really are no longer there. The only "real" advantage I find to shopping while cruising is that you do not have to pay tax on your purchases. We purchased a digital camera while on our cruise last week. I looked it up online before buying it and it is the same price online as we paid. Again, we just didn't have to pay tax or shipping.
I've also found that if there are quite a few ships in port, the shops don't have to "deal" with you on anything.

Oldman1 - we found better deals on jewelery on St. Maarten over St.Thomas, the merchants were much more laid-back on St. Maarten. IF you are looking for something specific in jewlery make sure you know what something similar would cost you back home. You can find larger stones at a cheaper price but sometimes you sacrifce the quality.
Old Man- We did the same itinerary on the Serenade in February. My mom found that St Maarten had better deals than St Thomas and ended getting one of those diamond circle necklaces in St Maarten for half of what she would have paid back home. They're all beautiful islands so have fun!
