Default Trinidad

Will be stopping in Trinidad for a day, as part of 10 day Zaandam trip in Feb. Anyone been there and have something to recomend to do. We usually stay away from the ships offerings. Like to snorkel (from the beach), not into shopping. Thanks for any help. Jeri

Hi Jeri,
I haven't yet been to Trinidad, but here is a site that has lots of information, things to do and see:

Enjoy your cruise on Zaandam!

Recently back from the Rotterdam, which also stopped for a day in Trinidad. We took one of the sightseeing excursions in the morning to get a "lay of the land". One of the stops was Maracas Bay Beach -- it was really beautiful and I would recommend it. Try this link for a description of some of the beaches:

You would do well to get out of downtown Port of Spain -- as with any highly industrialized port, it was fairly depressing. Once outside the city, however, the scenery is gorgeous -- incredible vistas... Make sure you have lots of film for your camera.

We also did the Caroni Bird Sanctuary excursion in the late afternoon and if you are "into" wildlife, I would highly recommend this. Since they do it later in the day (to take full advantage of the Scarlet Ibis sightings), you'll have plenty of time in the early part of the day to enjoy snorkling.

Enjoy the Zaandam!

Thanks Donna and Jules. Your info is very helpful. I also just read that Carnival is being celebrated from Jan 15 on. So I am hoping to see some of those great costumes. Appreciate your suggestions. Jeri

We have been to Trinidad several times, and there are no places to snorkel that I could find. The snorkeling is in Tabago, but there isn't enough time to take a ferry there and back, before most ships leave. Maracus Bay is lovely, but the water can be rough, and the time we were there there was no way to snorkel with the waves.
