booking shore excursions

We are sailing on Carnival Imagination, 7/22, with stops in Calica and Grand Cayman. Is it better to book our shore excursions through Carnival or on our own? We are hoping to do beach horseback riding and snorkeling. We're a family of 4, with 2 teenage sons.

Hi Icehorton,
You may want to check out this company that does shore excursions, they may be just what you are looking for:

There is also Captain Marvin in Grand Cayman, have heard mostly good things about booking with him:

Just remember that in Grand Cayman, you have to tender, so be sure to book an excursion some time after you are able to get ashore :-)

Calica has a beach resort very close, within walking distance, of the ship. I've forgotten the name of it. Ask a crew member and they will direct you. The Coba Mayan ruins are a fascinating tour if you are of that mind.

In Grand Cayman, I would suggest that you do the Stingray snorkle tour. It is wonderful and you get to swim with hundreds of stingrays. (What an experience for kids and you?)
Try to get on the first boat of the day. There will be a greater concentration of stingrays early in the day.
