Default Ft. Lauderdale-What to do for two days?

We are flying into Ft. Lauderdale two days before our cruise. Any suggestions of fun things to do? My DH and I are traveling with another couple. The guys are into pre '48 cars. The women hate shopping! Walking, wild rides, sea life, these are things we like to do and see. Would appreciate any suggestions. Sammy2

Renting a car is a good idea, otherwise you will just be stuck on Las Olas wondering what to have for dinner. You could drive to Miami South Beach and down the Keys (figure a good 8 hours to Key West even though it isn't that far).

I like the beach. Hollywood beach is kind of funky and has a local feel. You can go to Coconut Grove, check out the big hotels like the Fountainbleu, drive up to Palm Beach & see the mansions.

We have sailed out of Ft. Lauderdale a couple times, and have done the following one or more times:
- Take the water taxi through the inland waterways. The pilot gives some nice information, it is fun to look at the big houses and you can go to a restaurant without driving/walking.
- Go out and see the Flamingo Grove and/or take an airboat tour of the Everglades.
- Run along the beach (if you're a runner) or just stroll up the beach and back.
I am sure there are other things in the Ft. Lauderdale tourism website, but those are the things we've always enjoyed.
And, let us know how it goes. Have a great time!

Tom

definatley take the water taxi of the intercoastal waterway.
Hit Las Olas Blvd in the evening
Take an air-boat ride thru the Everglades
Pick-up any last-minute grocery or neccessities on 17th Street - some good restaurants on 17th street.
Hang out at your hotel and just veg- take advantage of what your hotel h as to offer.

P.S.- ask your hotel's concierge - that's what they are there for.

Las Olas Blvd is definitely a fun place in the evening. Otherwise rent a car and head over to South Beach. It is a great place to just soak it all in and people watch, shop, eat and drink. If your really feeling adventurous... take a day trip down into the Keys.... Key Largo is not that far of a drive.

The everglades are also another great sight seeing opportunity.... the airboats are a great rush!!
