16 year old on formal night

I have a 16 year old boy and we're going on our first cruise. He doesn't own ANYTHING dressy. What is the least he can get away with on formal nights? THANKS

haha he could "get away with" anything....on my cruise a whole group of boys wore those adidas windbreaker pants, a wifebeater, a black tie, and some wore jackets....i know hes not gonna go for that look but he can get away with dress pants and a button down shirt

or he can just not eat in the dining room on formal night.. that's what i did..

Try a dress shirt, nice pants, and a tie if he has those. You don't really need a jacket.
