Default big boat v small boat

Im in charge of planning my extended families xmas cruise for next year i think i will go with a smaller boat again.
Now when my uncle booked us on the Jewel i thought i was gonna be miserable. However, it was my best cruise ever! I think the smaller boat made it easier for the teens to meet everyone, and by the end of the trip it literally was like one big family. It was nice that pretty much wherever you were u would run into someone that you had at least met.
When i was on the bigger boats i found it was tough to find people that you had already met because there were so many people.
Anyother opinions like this? anyone been on both huge and small boats and disagree with me?

I've been on the smallest to the largest in the world. (Between CCL and RCI), the M/S Celebration and the M/S Freedom of the Seas. Though the Celebration is crap, because its old, I love the Fantasy class ships and Sovereign class ships and honestly I've had a better time, met cooler people, and had better "onboard passenger relations " on smaller ships than large ones. The Jewel, however, isn't that small of a ship, i'd call it midsized and am looking at a 13 night Russian cruise on it this summer.

I like big ships too =]

I can never see myself going on a small ship. I don't know what I would do, there would be nothing to entertain me. Plus on bigger ships you can meet more people most of the time.

Okay, here's a long response. Big ships is generally for people who enjoy crowds, meeting a ton of people, and not holding a severely in depth personal relationship with the crew. As for meeting people, new found friends will be numerous, but you'll probably only end up being true friends with a handful. Big ships, however, also tend to have more amenities and things to do as well as tend to look better in pictures (if you consider this an advantage).
Smaller ships mean a lot more personal relationships not only with other people, but with the crew as well. Even though lack of amenities may make the ship seem boring, it is the people onboard that make a small ship cruise successful.
A third option to consider is Princess which tends to have big ships with a "small ship feel" Dining rooms are separate one floor dining rooms, and the ship itself feels like a smaller ship than what it is; however you retain the multiple amenities.
