So, are jeans (non ripped or faded) and a nice top or jean skirt (not that short) and nice top w/ sandals/heels allowed in the dinning room on the casual evenings?
I'll be going on carnival triumph..
Yup, you should be fine with those. "Casual" is considered sportsy clothes like jeans and a polo or jeans and a top, skirts work too, but you might want to keep in mind that the dining room isn't always warm. Also remember that those are just "guidelines" and that no one is going to kick you out if you're not dressed a certain way.

yeah on my last cruise, the girls that we sat with at dinner showed up with jeans and tank tops just thrown over their swimsuits, and no one said anything to them

yeah, it gets me annoyed when i see people in the dining room in jeans and a t-shirt or somethign like that. i like to get semi-dressed up for dinner. i dunno why, but i like it. and i also hate when people, like you said, were reaaaaally short skirts and "clubwear" there.
im a guy so i dont know how much this is gonna help but when i was on the triumph in febuary they were extremely leaniant like i wore shorts and a polo every night except the formal nights and on the formal night alot of people were not dressed formal at all i guess it was cause they were all from canada or something i dont know that was in the paris dining room by the way

Ah! No clubwear in the dining room! lol Like most of the other girls... I wear dresses pretty much every night for dinner, and then I take pictures with my family and stuff at those picture places, and then go back to my room and change ASAP so I can go meet up with friends and have fun until my curfew!

Carnival actually just revised their dress code
This from the web site :
Is there a dress code for the dining room?
Depending on the length of the cruise, either formal dress or casual resort wear is required in the Dining Room. The dress requirement for children is the same. For those not wanting to dress up, the Lido restaurants are open nightly (with the exception of the last evening of the cruise), and have a casual dress code.
Cruise Casual Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Sport slacks, khakis, jeans (no cut-offs), dress shorts (long), collared sport shirts; Ladies - Casual dresses, casual skirts or pants and blouses, summer dresses, Capri pants, dress shorts, jeans (no cut-offs). Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Casual dinner for ladies and gentlemen: gym shorts, basketball shorts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, cut-off jeans, and sleeveless shirts for men.
Cruise Elegant Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Dress slacks, dress shirts. We also suggest a sport coat. If you wish to wear suits and ties or tuxedos, by all means we invite you to do so. Ladies - Cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses; if you‘d like to show off your evening gowns, that's great too! Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Elegant dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, T-shirts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, jeans, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men, sportswear, and baseball hats.

definitely don't wear jeans and a t shirt and flip flops. that just looks un-classy and the whole point of going to the "formal dinning room" is to dress up a bit for dinner, even when it is just the "casual" nights. i admit, i have worn jeans to the dinning room, but only designer jeans like true religions or sevens. and only dark ones because i know how to dress them up with a dressy top and heels or nice flats. then i think that's okay... but not destroyed jeans... i have also worn jean skirt but it was a dark one and i have worn a dressy top and heels with it. so basically if you know how to dress up NICE demin then i would say go for it, but most people don't lol. i HAAAAATE it when people wear a pool cover as a dress with a swimsuit underneath... SOO O TACKY!!! i dont know how they get away with it! i usually wear a dress of some kind... either a casual one or a dressier cocktail style one for the formal nights... but sometimes i run out and end up wearing some designer jeans.

formal night is supposed to represent what cruising used to be like back in the old days when cruising used to be for all the rich upper class so dressing up a little bit is kinda a way to show off which is good cause usually everyone looks good in formal wear
