Default totally confused by too much information

Someone please tell me what is the total amount I need to put in the envelope for the cabin steward, waiter & busboy. We are a family of 4 (2 adults in one cabin and 2 children in another) we need to know how much to budget out for this upcoming cruise.
We do not want to do the automatic tipping and will take it off of our account as soon as we arrive, we prefer to pay for good service at the end of the cruise

For a party of four, on a seven day cruise your total would be: dining room waiter 3.50 x 4 x 7 - housekeeper (same) - asst. waiter 2.00 x 4 x 7 = 98.00 dining room waiter, 98.00 housekeeper, 56.00 asst. waiter (for a total of 252.00)

soooooooooooooo, at an estimaterd $125 for 7 day cruise times 20 cabins, they are making $2,400 a week at a minumin divided by??????????????? waiters, bus boys ect??????????? times 4 weeks a month is $9,600 a month minumin right? how many could be dividing this? 10? thats still $960. a month and no rent , food, utitilies, etc.. thats not too shabbyl. theres always a mcdonalds that is hiring $5.95 an hour times 40 hours, take home $200 a week times 4 weeks equals $800 a month and rent etc has to be paid out of that. am i wrong here??????????????????

Working as a waiter or steward must be hard work for the pay because you never see Americans working in those jobs. I guess working 40 hours a week at McDonals is still better than working 12 hours a day 7 days a week, spending 6 months away from your family, sharing a 180 sqft room with 3 other people.

Hal will have started its auto tipping when we leave for Alaska . $10.00/day x7x3
I will be keeping it on my account but am wondering who else needs to be tipped out?
There are 3 of us staying in one cabin (.My parents and myself. ) Since it is for their 50 anniversary I am doing the paying and I have to convert my $$ from Canadian to American so that is an extra 30 % right there too. Do we tip extra in the special restaurants?Anywhere else?
Someone said something about a maitre de getting extra.
Also the focus of the cruise isn't all about tips is it?
Thanks fo the info
