Default Tipping........as if there isnt enough of these already!!!

What are the rules of leaving a little gift everyday for the room steward? Like....... my wife and I are planning on picking up some snacks or treats to leave each day....... also thinking about leaving a lottery ticket or some..... would that be a problem? I know that the crew is usually made up of non-American people, so was thinking that could be a little problem. Thanks!

Sounds like a neat idea. Not too sure about the lottos, tho. I'm sure that any show of appreciation would be greatly welcomed.

I guess that's an OK idea but I know money is much more appreciated. Instead, why not ask your stewart if there is anything they'd like you to pick up for them while on shore. Then you can get something they want.

I would be leaving these things plus the tip at the end...... not this in place of the tip.

the crew usually works on a ship in order to earn money to send home to support a family----they would appreciate cash over everything----im certain they have all the food and snacks that they need ---imo give cash at the end of the cruise

I agree that cash says it all. Nearly.

As well as the actual cash, we write a letter saying 'Thank you' and even include anything funny that may have happened. (Like..... 'Sorry about the night we spilt a whole jug of orane juice all over the bedside table and the pillow and the Duvet. We promise we'll stick to water from now on. The orange juice is still sticking to us).

I think there is a law that says only American citizens can claim any prizes from lotteries, if bought in the US.

We gave our cabin steward, as well as the tip left on auto account, a gift of a small stuffed toy Kangaroo. He thanked us and said his daughter at home would love it. There wasn't going to be any extra cash so this was just a little something from our home country to say thanks. Same as we gave friends in port that we met for the first time to remember us by.
