Actually, we're getting enough back to cover at least part of our shipboard expenses next time out - if we go easy on the Asti, that is!

Lisa:

do you mean total taxes paid for the year or the amount we are paying at the end to square things up?

Was wondering....do you suppose the IRS would mind if my wife and I rented a p.o. box in the Bahamas and stopped paying US taxes the way some big companies do?

not paying into the Fed's this year, part of the refund is gone into the upcoming cruise savings accounts.

I'm getting a refund, nan nanna boo boo!! Actually we had a complete loss this year and even got earned income credit and since our son decided to go to college last year we got that too. With the money we can easily take 2 cruises but I'm not going to. I want the money in the bank, at least for a while to earn that little bit of interest.

actually entitled to money back this year because business was down and the money is stashed to pay the extra that we are going to get hit with next year because business is back up

Your accountant will tell you that if you get a big refund it's not a good thing, it's a bad thing. It means you over-withheld and gave Uncle Sam an interest-free loan for most of the year. The goal should be to come out as close to even as possible. Sometimes it isn't easy if you have your own business and/or a significant portfolio.

I agree with AR. We got back over 4K but so my working wife had to adjust her W-4 immediately. We can get interest on that overage rather than letting Uncle hold it "por nada." BUT that 4K more than pays for our Hawaii booking on the "Radiance" in Sept.

My state + federal refunds will pay for about half of my June cruise. It's a decent amount of $$, then again it's a way-more-than-decent cabin... Owners' Suite on the Norway!!

We underestimated how much we owed this year and ended up paying big bucks. Enough to go on a 14 night cruise on Celebrity in the Penthouse Suite!!

My DH and I are out of a couple of shore excurisions or maybe our Casino budget. Cruising next year is up in the air regardless. (I can't belive I am saying this) But, since our past experience we are just not that crazy about it anymore. Maybe we overcame the addiction. What is wrong with us.

Oh Sue, I have been feeling that way since our last cruise. We did not have a bad experience at all but somehow I came back from it not caring when and where we would do it again. I guess 4 cruises in 2 years was more than enough. I still come to the boards and look at the deals but I just don't have the passion as I used too. I think by next year I will be ready for it. Give it some time Sue, you will get thru this.

Yikes! We paid out enough for 2 1/2 RCI Explorer Carib. cruises, even though hubby had more taken out last year. He works part-time at a post-retirement job and gets paid only for the days he works. He decided last year he'd been working too much and took off days for three vacations( 7-day Jan. cruise, 2 wks in FL in Mar. and 1 wk in VA Beach in July) and long weekends from May to Oct. And we still had a whopper of an IRS payment this month. But I was able to talk him into a 12-day Alaskan cruise/tour for Aug. Why work if you can't play???
