Default I used to post...

I used to be involved, loved hearing about cruising, cruised only twice. Some of you may remember me. I was DeniseToAlaska at first, my first.

Then my contractor screwed me. We're now going to arbitration with the Contractors' State Licensing Board. It's been 9 months and we have not passed rough framing inspection.

I did manage to pay for my June 18th Alaska cruise though, which has brought me back.

Unless you totally and completely know what you're doing, don't ever build your own house. Buy someone else's and remodel.

So this gripe is that home building SERIOUSLY impairs cruising. Don't do it! I had plenty of money to build and cruise, now I don't even have more than wood and no money to cruise.

Hi Denise,
Sure do remember you.
Sorry for all the crap you are going through. Have been very close to that situation.

Hopefully your June cruise will take your mind off all that is happening. Alaska is absolutely breath taking. We are going back again this May.

Hope to see more posts from you and don't forget to stop in chat when you get a chance.

Ready to Steer towards another cruise

Glad to see you back Denise but sorry about the contractor problems.

After my sisters built houses over the years and hearing of their problems with contractors we always decided to buy existing homes in all of our moves. One sister became a builder too.

We are now building a commercial building and so far everything is going pretty well. But I'm waiting for the disaster to come. I am at the site everyday taking video footage of the construction "just in case."

Good to see you're cruising again.

There are good building contractors out there....

We had a home built in southern California twenty years ago. It was a company that was tried and true and we had a wonderful experience from beginning to end.

Moved to the Oregon coast five years ago and again selected a builder who had been constructing homes in the area for twenty years. And guess what- another great experience and beautiful (and durable) home in a harsh climate- we are right on the ocean.

I feel for you, as it has to be terribly stressful/painful. But there are reputable contractors out there who can provide a great construction experience and keep you cruising too.

Best wishes...

We built our 1st over 3 years ago. I would do it again but we learned alot in the process. Sorry to hear of your problems. At least you do have your cruise to look forward too. Even if you don't have much money for spending (you really don't need much), but you are on the ship and from what I have heard just the scenery as you are cruising along is breathtaking. Enjoy your cruise!

Hi Denise, I remember you and was wondering where you had gone off to - you were so excited and enthusiastic about your Alaska cruise and then you disappeared.

Sorry to hear about your homebuilding problems. I just had a home built and had a great experience, but even then it has drained most of my cruise fund. I hope everything works out favorably for you. At least you have another Alaska cruise to look forward to.
