My gripe is from people who complain that they cant take there own drinks{be it soda,beer etc} on board or get mad that the cruise puts a limit on how much you can take. These are the same people who usually travel in outside or balc cabins{they say they like to have a nitecap on there bacl before going to bed etc..}-which means they are paying at least about 1000usd{if you get a good deal} if not more per person. Also they seem to be the ones who when in port recomend that you try so and sos for a quick bite,and less tourist atmosphere etc..{there is free food on the boat}or drop a few hundred in the casino and bingo. But gosh forbid they pay 3.50USD for a bottle of beer{which is the going price in any decent bar in the major cities,I am talking like Manhatten, Chicago,Los Angles,South Beach}
Its a VACATION you are on-enough of being doller wise-penny foolish.
Its BECAUSE we are dollar wise that we can afford to pay the price for the balcony or outside cabins. Sure...I can purchase an inside cabin and use the money that I save on that toward my bar tab. But why not have it both ways? Save a little here...spend a little there.
Its the same as saving money by eating hamburger or chicken every night at home, so that we can buy the filet mignon or lobster when we go out to eat.
And its not the $3.50-$5.00 for "A" drink. Its $3.50-$5.00 times how many drinks, per day, for 7 days? Everyone says how the drinks aren't any more expensive on the ship than they are when you go out to dinner at home. Well...I don't go out to dinner every night for 7 nights straight .

My thoughts exactly, Asealady. I just don't understand why people get so upset at those of us who want to "smuggle" in our booze or bring our own sodas to save some money.
Is it hurting them any? I can't see how.
I believe if it doesn't hurt me, who am I to judge or complain?

I bring my own sodas because I prefer Pepsi and the cruiseline I frequent only has Coke. Plus, I don't have to smuggle it. It's not against rules to bring soda or water onboard.
I agree, it totally amazes me how some people get their feathers ruffled when others want to bring on sodas, water, etc... Its not coming out of their pockets, is it ? I am bringing my own soda because I cant stand Coke... long live the Dr Pepper Queen !
Not to be ugly... but if its not you doing it, its not for you... then its not YOUR business....
And... its not against any policy to bring on a suitable amount... call the lines, they dont care ! Period !!
and here is where the "gray area" is. Sure its fine to bring aboard a "reasonable amount" the cruise lines have no problems with that. It is the select few who will try to bring aboard a case or two or three or four of their favorite beverage that causes the problem. Would most people walk into a resort hotel on vacation hauling a cooler full ot their favorite beverage? I think not, but some folks think that it is perfectly fine to do that on a cruise, NO - EVERYTHING IN MODERATION - please. I will bring aboard a few bottles of water to be refilled from the cabin sink, and i will pack a few nips for a night cap out on the balcony. If i have a favorite wine i will bring that and have it served at dinner. Perfectly fine and ok with the cruise lines.
And moderation is what I also do. I still purchase some drinks, usually wine. I didn't start out bringing my alcohol to "save money". Originally, I started doing it because it was only after we got onboard did I find out the ship didn't carry my favorite brand (and the only thing I drink...Barcardi Limon). Thats when I discovered the savings...lol. Since then, I've found out that some ships do carry it and some don't. But I don't take my chance anymore. I do the same where ever I travel, resort or cruise. I also bring on a six pack , or a 2 liter bottle of Diet Coke to mix with it.
But regardless of why I bring it, it shouldn't be anyone else's concern.

I don't think most cruise lines have any rules against bringing soft drinks on board. However, most do against bringing liquor. I don't really care what other people bring or don't bring on board ship. However, it does bother me just a little bit that some people who disapprove of other's attire in the dining room are the same ones who think smuggling liquor is just fine.
We have been on three cruise and have taken at least 4 six packs everytime. No problems any of those times. We even restocked in Panama last November and the items had to be scanned to get back on the ship and nothing was said. They just take the liquor away and keep it until the end. We even say some of that getting through. Guess you just have to be one of the lucky ones.
