Has anyone done the Russian river cruise on this ship or with this line? If so, how did it go.

I've been looking at this cruise for some time. Last week I finally made reservations for August, but will be aboard the other ship. I think they are pretty much alike. I believe the brochure says they were renovated about 3-4 years ago. From what I read on the boards the line gets good marks.

Patt: Just returned from the Moscow/St. Petersburg trip on the Pakhomov, the sister ship to the Kirov. It was wonderful! We were very well taken care of in terms of included tours. We are booked on the Kirov for September 15th.
Anything you could share would be appreciated.
We have cruised quite a bit, but never a river cruise and never to Russia.
What did you pack and what did you wish you had that you didn't take?
How does river cruising compare with a smaller regular cruise liner?
How was the food, tours and anything else you can think of to add?

Hi Maryann: Have only been on large ships (800-2500 passengers). On the Pakhomov we had about 150 passengers and during the course of the trip we got to speak to just about everyone else at one time or another. This trip is very intinerary-intensive. You'll be out and about touring most of the time. Day clothing should be casual/comfortable and probably light layers or a windbreaker for September. Evenings were also casual - I took three pair of slacks: black, white, tan, and a mix and match assortment of tops. For the dressy evenings, a skirt/twin set, dress/jacket or pant suit are fine. The food was great, the tours and guides exceptional. For further details, check out Fodors.com travel talk.
